Guest guest
Rebecca, lots of Moms experience loss of cognative abilities after birth. We jokingly say we lose 5 IQ points with each child... depression or not. Some experts believe it has to do with oxytocin impairing memory. Others say that the stress and hormonal changes in pregnancy and birth are bound to mess up the brain. Whatever. It does get better, but it takes time, good diet, and allowing oneself to get the rest that one needs. Good luck! Hilary My last pregnancy, I was studying full time and at the top of the class then when the little one in question was born, I couldn't even remember what day it was! When I returned to study, I certainly wasn't up to scratch either - probably compounded by the fact I had such a poor diet back then too. I certainly was feeling 'bummed out' and not my usual self. And this was even when our little one managed to sleep through the night. I don't know about anyone else - but I think a lack of sleep alone is enough to give anyone full-scale depression!
