Guest guest
Why I drink distilled water http://www.herbsfirst.com/discriptions/drinkdistilled.html Why I Drink Distilled Water By Dr. Clifford C. Dennison, Ed. D. Pure Distilled Water... Helps transports substances in my body As one of the greatest solvents known, water helps prepare substances for transport across cell membranes and/or distribution through our bodies by way of blood and lymph. This function of water in our bodies is impaired when the water is filled with contaminants that interfere with its ability to dissolve bodily substances efficiently. Helps my body chemistry regulated and function properly Metabolic activities depend upon enzymes, coenzymes, trace minerals and other substances which are present in minute quantities. Contaminants and toxic chemicals, introduced into our body through our drinking water can interfere with normal metabolic activities and enzymatic pathways. We can understand this interference better when we consider these vital elements may be present in quantities of a few thousand ions or molecules; whereas, just one swallow of water containing one part per million of a toxic chemical will contain six hundred quadrillion (600,000,000,000,000,000,) toxic molecules. Helps cleanse my body of waste materials Within the body, water acting as a solvent, reaches into every cell to absorb and carry away the poisons that are formed as a part of the life process. Lots of pure water is needed for this task. We all know that it is easier to wash dishes in a sink full of clean water than in a cup full of dirty water. The blood circulates 400 gallons of water through the kidneys each day. Common sense tells us that when the water we consume is pure, it can do a much better job than when it is already contaminated with toxic substances. Pure Distilled Water... Helps keep my body cool This is accomplished when water in my body evaporates from the skin. If the water in my body is full of contaminants they will be left as residues that will encrust the skin, leaving it rough, dry and a breeding ground for bacteria. Drinking lots of pure water, on the other hand, will help leave the skin soft and pliable. Makes my food and beverages taste better What a delight it is to drink a glass full of frozen juice made with distilled water! Without the chemicals and minerals in the water, there is nothing to hide the natural fresh taste of the fruit. Many people have told me they cannot drink their favorite beverage made with tap water once they begin using distilled water. And, distilled water also makes foods cooked in water tastier and the color remains bright like nature intended, since there are no chemicals and other toxic substances to turn them brownish-yellow. I do not consume any harmful substances when I drink distilled water Chlorine, which has been added to our tap water, may be one of the most dangerous chemicals consumed by man. Research studies indicate that chlorine combines with organic substances found in tap water to produce chlorinated hydrocarbons that may be involved in such insidious diseases as hardening of the arteries, heart attacks, strokes and cancer. I have a chlorine test kit which I use to test for chlorine level in my tap water. It may be higher than allowed in my swimming pool. Tap water may be drinkable but don't swim in it. The fallacy about drinking water for the minerals it contains Some people have the mistaken belief that essential minerals are derived from water they drink. Yes, we do need minerals. But the source of minerals for the body is food we eat - not the water we drink. Plants have a unique ability to convert inorganic minerals absorbed from the soil and water into organic forms our bodies can use. Our bodies can use few, if any, of the minerals absorbed in water. These minerals merely contaminate our water and hinder the water from performing its material functions. According to experts in the field, there are several different kinds of water, and almost all of them are harmful in some way. These waters carry minerals, metals and inorganic compounds into our body that we can't use. These waters carry 80% of all sickness and disease. They may contain over 700 identified chemicals all of which permeate our systems and may begin accumulating there. When water brought into our bodies is already polluted, its natural cleansing functions are impaired. As a result, we may develop health problems as these pollutants build up in our blood vessel, joints and internal organs. Some health specialists believe we experience hardening of the arteries, arthritis, kidney stones, gall stones, vision problems, (glaucoma and cataracts), loss of hearing, diabetes, obesity, emphysema and other ailments in greater intensities and more frequently when we live with and consume polluted or contaminated water. Of the several types of water, such as: rain, snow-melt, raw, hard, filtered, soft, de-ionized, boiled and distilled - only distilled water is pure and virtually free of all contaminates. As a result, distilled water has no taste, no color, no odor, no bacteria, no heavy metals, no acids, no organic minerals, no toxic chemicals, no poisons. Distilled water enters your system clean. It is free to absorb and wash away the poisons your system generates and the poisons that have accumulated. There's not absolute proof that drinking distilled water will remove kidney and gall stones, reduce cataracts or cure emphysema. But, there are hundreds of case histories of people who have enjoyed success in alleviating or overcoming these health problems when they began distilled water exclusively. The preceding are just a few reasons why I drink distilled water. I am not an evolutionist but I do believe that man was created an adaptable organism and that it takes a long time for an organism to adapt to a changing environment. Man has been living on earth for thousands of years. During most of this time he has been adapted to a natural environment, getting his water from unpolluted springs, streams and shallow wells. This water has been relatively pure containing only moderate amounts of naturally occurring substances. But conditions have changed. Since the industrial revolution, and especially since World War II, we have dumped synthetic chemicals by the thousands into the environment. We are not adapted to these man-made chemicals. We know that many of them are toxic. We do not know the effects they will have on the bodies of our children and the generations to come. Does it not make sense, therefore, to consume only pure water produced by a good quality distiller right in your own home? Guest guest
But it is widely believed that the minerals in water are poorly absorbed by the body, which, together with the polluted state of most available tap water, makes the use of distilled water desirable. Raw plant foods are loaded with minerals, and I believe, are the best source of organic minerals, easily absorbed by the body. As for disclaimers, I don't blame Dr. Dennison for making one, since you can place yourself in legal jeopardy if you make certain medical assertions, without also appending a disclaimer to those assertions. Disclaimers don't necessarily have any bearing on the validity of the medical and nutritional assertions made. - " Morton Bodanis " <mortonmb Sunday, November 18, 2001 4:25 PM Re: Why I Drink Distilled Water By Dr. Dennison > What a bunch of rubbish. Guest guest
<<...together with the polluted state of most available tap water, makes the use of distilled water desirable>> Reverse osmosis and carbon block filters are my preferred options. If one's tap water water originates from an on-site drilled well in the country, the quality of water may be very high. Rob
Guest guest
What a bunch of rubbish. Except for pollutants, which I agree are bad for us, we need the minerals in the water; those are the same ones for which we pay a lot of money to health food stores. Kidney stones? Drink lots of water, any water, and you won't have any. If there was much validity to this rubbish, there wouldn't be a need for the lengthy disclaimer. Guest guest
When you wite " it is widely believed..... " , does belief imply factual evidence? I can provide no references as to whether or not minerals in water are absorbable, but " proof should come before belief. " If there is an adequate bibliography, disclaimers are not necessary. Guest guest
The amount of minerals in tap water is insignificant. The idea that distilled water will leach minerals out of the body seems to me to be a misconception based on the experience of storing distilled water in copper pipes & containers. Plumbers say that distilled water is " thirsty " as it will leach metal into solution. But this process does apply to living bodies. Why not? Because one's stomach & intestines are far from clean environments. One's innards are filled with digesting food, digestive enzymes, mucous, etc. The " thirsty water " has its thirst quenched the moment it enters the mouth from bits of crud on the teeth plus saliva. No way disgtilled water is going to leach minerals from the body. While it is conceivably possible that a chemist could make an error such as described below, I seriously have my doubts. It sounds like a bit of invented folklore. No names are given for the chemist or the company he supposedly owns. Come to think of it, how many chemical companies are owned by a person (as opposed to a corporation of many individuals). Call me dubious. Guest guest
Sources that " seemed reliable and conscientious " . I recently had the occasion to visit a company which manufactures chemicals for corporations and for research laboratories. While there, I spoke to the owner, a chemist, naturally, and asked him about distilled v.s. tap water. He adamantly stated that except for using distilled water to make a better tasting tea, he drank tap water. If minerals will dissolve in water, they will be absorbed by the body. He will not drink distilled water, except for in the occasional cup of tea for the improved flavour, because it will leach minerals out of the body. To remove heavy metals, bacteria, viruses, chlorine, from drinking water, he uses an activated charcoal filter anyone can buy in a store. To remove chlorine from water without a filter, leave a pitcher of it in the refrigerator over night. The chlorine will have evaporated and you will have a glass of cold water. Guest guest
<< Take cider vinegar which is supposed to have medicinal or nutritional properties of some sort. If any these claims had any shred of truth to them, why then are they not espoused by the Vinegar Manufacturers' Association (I think I have the name right) of America. Don't you think that they would jump onto the chance to propagate proven inforamation in order to better market their product? Almost anything can have a placebo effect. (Note that I said " almost " .) Morton>> I have been told by my health food doctor for years (he and Hanng Kroger were friends) that vinegar was great for you and to take a tablespoon a day. His name is Dr. J.C. Hugh MacKimmie. I cannot even recall what exactly he said it would do for me or why I should take it. I got so used to following his adived since he has never steered me wrong in all the years I've known him (42) that I didn't pay much attention to why sometimes...I just did it. Whatever he said to do, I would do. Below is an article I found on the following website about its healing properties..i am sure there is more out there if I were to search, its just one of the first sites I came upon about it. Hanna Kroger may have said something about it too. http://www.themediadrome.com/content/articles/food_articles/vinegar.htm or if you can. <A HREF= " http://www.themediadrome.com/content/articles/food_articles/vinegar.htm " >T\ he Mediadrome - Food - The Vagaries of Vinegar</A> Here's the article. > inegar has been known since before the Roman empire. Guest guest
" Owned " by someone can mean a one-man operation, or it can refer to a large multi-national corporation with the majority of the shares " owned " by one man. the name of this rather large, well-respected corporation in the industry, is " American Chemicals Ltd. " in Montreal, QC, Canada. I stand by my statement. That you are " dubious " is good. There are many " concepts " transmitted by well-meaning people who don't know what they are talking about except that " It came from a reliable source " , whatever that is. Take cider vinegar which is supposed to have medicinal or nutritional properties of some sort. If any these claims had any shred of truth to them, why then are they not espoused by the Vinegar Manufacturers' Association (I think I have the name right) of America. Guest guest
1. Can't patent it. 2. Health benefit claims have to be proven to the FDA's satisfaction. This is something that costs more than a producer can afford. Chuck I never believe anything until it's been officially denied .
