Just understand EPA & DHA are powerful fatty acids and you can

overdose or get into problems if you take too much of any Omega.

Hi Donna,

Like Aspirin and other NSAIDs, they all work by inhibiting the Omega 6 AA

derived proinflammatory eicosanoids and

proteins. Too much inhibiting is bad and can reduce your bodies ability to

respond to a real need for attack.

The Omega intakes which were developed by the US working committee take all this

into account and it is why I caution

against too much EPA & DHA.

That said, folks with bad inflammation related diseases, such as rheumatoid

arthritis do need mega doses of EPA & DHA.

If you are healthy and want to improve your health further then I suggest you

follow the recommendations:

Omega 6 LA < 7 g

Omega 3 LNA ~ 2.2 g (1 tablespoon of ground flax)

Omega 3 EPA + DHA ~ 0.6 g in total (1 serve of fatty fish OR 2 standard fish oil

capsules)

The interrelationship between the Omegas is quite complex and the above mix gets

it right (in my opinion).

I would appreciate it if you would explain what you mean by the above, i.e.

Omega 6 LA <7g, etc.

Thanks, Morton

Hi Morton,

Omega 6 lineolic acid (LA) occurs in nature in green veggies, nuts & seeds. Via

processing we get concentrated Omega 6

LA oils, which never occur in nature.

The US working committee recommendations are to limit daily intake of Omega 6 LA

to less than 7 g which means you

probably need to eliminate the use of Omega 6 LA rich oil based products.

Here is a good graphic example of the fat content of various oils:
