Guest guest
Evening Mindy, Great message. We appreciate you sharing your obstacles and victories. BTW before anyone says, " Oh that low carb diet is so unhealthy; all you >eat is bacon " you should know that my diet consists of healthy >antioxidant-filled fruits such as blueberries and strawberries mixed in >cottage cheese, and mozzarella cheese sticks, and grilled chicken >breasts, LOTS and LOTS of salad with olive oil & vinegar dressings, and >lots of vegetables such as broccoli, cucumbers, zucchini, cauliflower, >spinach, some squash, and non-starchy root vegetables. Sounds like you climbed the mountain, killed the devil, and have nothing to worry about now. I have the " protein Power " book. You did not mention eating nuts and seeds. I eat lots of nuts, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds. I worry about wearing out my teeth before I die. I am trying to eat less and less carbohydrate because so many of my friends are diabetics. I built a web page that features my trailmix recipe along with the nutrient analysis of each ingredient. Then.... I started added the nutrient information of everything I eat regularly. Hopefully, all this information is factual, it is the best I can find. then.... I added my blood analysis and that of a few friends. The page is too long, but does contain some good links. Check it out for a few seconds and tell me what you think. www.fugitt.com/trailmix.htm If I had 10 or 20 more blood reports, we could make up a lottery on who lives the longest. Guest guest
My mom has been fighting her cholesterol all her life unsuccessfully. After having a quad bypass, She went on a low carb diet the consistent of meats and cheese and nuts. No fried meats. Salads, vegetables and fruits. No bread, pasta and rice. This was a perfect diet, since she finally go her cholesterol under control....the sugar and breads is what raised her cholesterol...Kim

Wayne, You're right - I forgot to mention nuts and seeds. BTW your recipe for trail mix sounds super yummy! (The one thing that gives me pause is RAW pumpkin seeds...I love 'em roasted, but have never eaten them raw. Aren't they poisonous raw? That's what I heard once...) There is nothing like the power of synergy when applied to foods... I also forgot to mention eggs. I eat a lot of eggs! At least a dozen a week, sometimes more. Eggs make a nice base for veggie toppings in omelets. Not to mention they're loaded with amino acids. And did you know that eggs are the perfect protein, the baseline against every other protein is measured? Do you eat eggs? Are you a vegetarian? Just curious. > The page > is too long, but does contain some good links. *no* the page is not too long! I don't think any web page is too long when there's good info on it... <g> I was especially delighted to see that you had a link to Charles Weber's site regarding potassium. Boy, it's hard to get enough potassium...ya gotta think about what you're eating. I like to take my calcium and magnesium pills with an 8 oz glass of low-sodium V8 juice (900mg potassium). Here's another great web page about the link between potassium and hypothyroidism (not as great as Charles Weber's though) ...what I like about this page is that, down at the bottom, she gives a list of different recipes to boost potassium. oh well, I didn't mean to go on and on about it...I'm sure your trail mix provides a great source of potassium. BTW I'd love to see a nutrient list for an average amount of trail mix rather than just individual nutrients. Is that possible? > If I had 10 or 20 more blood reports, we could make up a lottery on who > lives the longest. Not a bad idea. Since my husband started smoking again a month ago, I've been telling him that I want him to go to a doctor and get his blood tests taken, and that I'd get mine done too. So if I can actually get him to do this, maybe we will contribute our test results to your database. -- Mindy ----------------------- " ...that they may be one... Guest guest
Wayne & Mindy Raw pumpkin seeds are an excellent source of EFAs and contain substances that promote prostate health. The best doctor I've ever gone to, provided we with a diet program which called for an oz. of either raw sunflower or pumpkin seeds to accompany my morning serving of fruit, lettuce leaves and freshly made veg/fruit juice. I've never known the high quality of health I achieved before or after I managed to follow his diet faithfully. By the way, Trader Joe's sells raw, " organic! " pumpkin seeds for an excellent price. Guest guest
Rather than picket TJ's for selling Gen.Engineered foods, they should " encourage " them to sell organic and non-GE alternatives. TJ's have, for some time now, been offfering an ever increasing number of " organic " options to their regular products. They also sell " non " -organic pumpkin seeds at a lower price. That's good enough for me. - <vache920 Wednesday, November 14, 2001 1:23 PM Re: Foods, eating habits, Low Carbs > Gettingwell, " John Polifronio " <counterpnt@e...> wrote: > " By the way, Trader Joe's sells raw, " organic! Guest guest
Morning Dorothy, >Hi Wayne, >how would sesame seeds go in your mix ?? If one would add up all the individual nutrients in this trail mix, I think they would agree with me that this is simply " the best food in the world " . Likely it would work very well. I have not looked at the analysis of Sesame Seeds yet. I wish the flax seeds were not so small and tough, I would put some of those in it as well. Guest guest
Morning Mindy, mix sounds super yummy! (The one thing that gives me pause is RAW pumpkin >seeds...I love 'em roasted, but have never eaten them raw. Aren't they >poisonous raw? That's what I heard once...) There is nothing like the power >of synergy when applied to foods... I don't think there is anything bad about eating raw pumpkin seeds. The only bad part is the " price " . >I also forgot to mention eggs. I eat a lot of eggs! At least a dozen a week, >sometimes more. Eggs make a nice base for veggie toppings in omelets. Not to >mention they're loaded with amino acids. And did you know that eggs are the I eat eggs...... anyway that is possible. I have not eaten them raw for many years now. At one time, I drank a gallon of milk per day and added 6 raw eggs, and other things. Recently, I have tried to quit eating any foods that are not on the " semi-approved " list. Often I ignore a great cooked meal when it is sitting there in favor of a protein drink or something else. One of my favorite way to eat eggs is with onions and bell peppers. 3 scrambled eggs with 1/2 bell pepper and 1/2 onion......... makes a meal for me. I also eat a disk I make, Okra and peppers, and Okra and tomatoes. >perfect protein, the baseline against every other protein is measured? Do you >eat eggs? Are you a vegetarian? Just curious. I am not opposed to eating meat. Eating all the other things like trail mix and munching on protein wafers seems to make the typical meat dishes not wanted or needed. I eat fish about once a week and many a steak every month or two. Over the years, I have eaten anything I wanted to eat without any problem, even a pound of chocolate covered peanuts at one sitting. Often I go months without eating any candy or similar junk. Honestly, I don't think a candy bar every 3 months will kill us. boost potassium. oh well, I didn't mean to go on and on about it...I'm sure >your trail mix provides a great source of potassium. I will make another message with my views on potassium. > BTW I'd love to see a >nutrient list for an average amount of trail mix rather than just individual >nutrients. Is that possible? Yes, it is possible. And.... we do think alike on many things. I have 10,000 hours programming in the old x-base languages and about 8,000 hours in C. I have not figured out how to do this in the semi-automated mode without a lot of typing. ASCII import would work, but a lot of fields exist, and some manual work will be required before the " read in " or import is done. The only problem with the " overall " analysis of trail mix, is that most every batch is slightly different. I have bags in my truck, bags in my office, bags in the kitchen, and bags in the freezer. They are similar but still a little different. >Not a bad idea. Since my husband started smoking again a month ago, I've been >telling him that I want him to go to a doctor and get his blood tests taken, >and that I'd get mine done too. So if I can actually get him to do this, >maybe >we will contribute our test results to your database. What do you think the difference will be? One of the reports is from a doctor-Scientist I know. IT is interesting that he is the only person who did not want his name attached. And... he wanted it labeled a " non smoker " . If you compare the one from " David Stuart " , a close friend of mine, you cannot tell that he is a smoker. It is interesting to compare this one from the " non smoker " to the one who is a smoker. Or at least I could not detect any major differences. Wayne
