Sorry, Pamela, I could have stated that better. You are correct.

I have used L-glutamine for leaky gut syndrome problems also and found it to

be very effective.

My understanding is that L-glutamine is an amino acid

that is an important building block for several

neurotransmitters. It is not a neurotransmitter

itself. Neurotransmitters are special chemicals made

and used by the brain cells (neurons) to communicate

with each other.

L-glutamine is a miracle worker in restoring the

structural integrity of the intestines. (Good for

leaky gut.)

" L-Glutamine is a miracle worker in restoring the structural integrity of

the intestines... "

Would that extend to the esophagus? I suffer from hiatal hernia. Aside

from powerful acid-blocking drugs such as Prilosec, as well as a couple of

highly controversial and potentially dangerous and very invasive surgeries,

there's nothing much that can be done about a weakened esophageal sphincter.

Well, John, research has proved that supplementation

of L-glutamine lessens stomach inflammation caused by

chemotherapy. Dosages of just 1.5 grams per day have

been used to treat peptic ulcers. I would definitely

try it. Powdered L-glutamine is the easiest and most

economical way to take the amino acid.

Good luck with it,

Pam

Thanks Pamela

I've been buying aminos from Jo Mar Laboratories. Their prices are good.

But I don't know if " quality, " is much of an issue with different brands of

amino acids, and I certainly don't know how Jo Mar compares to other amino

acid suppliers; but I've never seen their prices beaten.

I've never tried L-Glutamine, but I'm going to check their catalog for

L-Glutamine, and order some. Have you any idea whether Glutamine is one of

those amino acids that is best taken, initially, in low does, say 1/2 gm,

and building up, gradually, to 1.5 to 2 gms?

Thanks for the tip.

I've never tried L-Glutamine, but I'm going, right now, to check their

catalog for

L-Glutamine, and order some. Have you any idea whether Glutamine is one of

those amino acids that is best taken, initially, in low does, say 1/2 gm,

and building up, gradually, to 1.5 to 2 gms?

As I write, I'm checking out http://www.jomarlabs.com/prices.asp . They

list L-Glutamine powder @ 150gms powder for $14.80; 1000gms powder for

$79.20; 375, 400mg caps for $19.80 and 2500, 400mg caps for $119.30. Looks

like this stuff is cheap!

Do you prefer the powder? I thought I'd start with 150gm powder, which at

2gms daily would last 75 days. That would seem long enough to tell me if

the stuff is working for me. Though I have angina, which is life

threatening, my hiatal hernia causes me more raw pain than any other

physical problem I have. I wonder if anyone else on this list, has had a

similar experience. I've had pain from my esophagus that was so severe, I

got ready to go to the hospital. But hospital workers can't do anything for

this problem that you can't do for yourself at home, with powerful antacids,

prilosec, etc. I read that consuming a very ripe tomato can sometimes stop

the acid pain. I know that if I always ate with greater care and wisdom,

I'd have few if any of these painful attacks. But if we had the discipline

to always eat wisely, we wouldn't be having most of these discussions in

these health-related chat rooms, would we?

Once again, thanks for the tip.

best wishes

John P.

No, it's not, John. Daily dosages of 40 grams have

been taken for severe wound healing, with no side

effects.

Do you take fish oil? Essential fatty acids in fish

oils will lower elevated triglyceride levels. Also,

gamma-oryzanol has healing powers against gastric and

cardiovascular ailments.
