Guest guest
Hi Everybody...... I'm new, so pardon me if I bend any rules........ I'm presently going thru withdrawal from a prescription drug, and have had back surgery....because of these 2 problems, I am having horrible muscles spasms. Does anybody know of any natural things I can do to relax spasms? Lee

No....I am presently doing a long slow taper off Baclofen and Ativan. I nearly died from the Baclofen and my primary care doc gave me Ativan to 'counter-act' that... so now I have to taper off both. I was on 30 mg Baclofen a day and now I'm down to 2.5 mg. Ativan: was on 3 mg. a day and now I'm down to .1 mg..........I think it's the Ativan that is giving me all the problems. I've been at 2.5 mg Baclofen for some time now..it's when I cut back on the Ativan that things get much worse. I'll take any help I can get..........this severe muscle rigidity is killing me. Guest guest
Dear Lee, For the muacles sometimes it is helpfull to take calcium and magnesium for muscle relaxation. A herbal remedy that also might help with the withdrawal and muscles is valerian. It smells bad but is not harmfull. Also will help you to sleep at night if needed. There are some amino acids also to help muscle relaxation but don't remember off hand. If I can I will try and find the info again. Guest guest
Dear Lee, Are you completely off all medications? I assumed that you were off of a medication and having withdrawal symptoms, when I posted my ptevious message to you. If you are still taking something let me know as you might need to check with our pharmacist about drug interactions. kind regards, Frank Gettingwell, marthafns@a... wrote: > Hi Everybody...... > > I'm new, so pardon me if I bend any rules........ > > I'm presently going thru withdrawal from a prescription drug, and have had > back surgery....because of these 2 problems, I am having horrible muscles > spasms. Guest guest
Dear Lee, I am not familiar with Baclofen. What type of drug is it? I do not have the personal experience about ativan but I think it has a very short half life doesn't it? May I ask why you didn't switch to valium for your taper ala Prof Ashton -Tate? Many people have had good luck doing so. I think once that our bodies go into severe allergic/tolerance withdrawal reaction to the medication that it then is very, very difficult to restabilize on the same meds. If the ativan withdrawal is causing your muscle problem, it would be very difficult to campletey relieve the symptoms of withdrawal by herbs or vitamins alone, even though they will help. The main way to relieve the symptoms of withdrawal pain is to go back on a similiar med, I would consider switching to a long acting benzo and do a very slow taper. Docters don't usually know enough to take the responsibility to safely get you off these type of medications. I suggest that you learn all you can and direct your own taper. After all it is your body and you will know what is best by feeling what is going on. As you know there are a lot of people who have been damaged by taking people off benzodiazapines too fast. I will still try and come up with suggestions to help you. Its just that these benzodiazapines are so powerfull and so damaging. good luck, Frank Gettingwell, marthafns@a... wrote: > In a message dated 11/9/2001 5:35:21 PM Eastern Standard Time, > califpacific writes: > > > > Are you completely off all medications? > > > > Frank..... > > No....I am presently doing a long slow taper off Baclofen and Ativan.
