I'm not a massage therapist, so I can't help by suggesting specific techniques, but as a fellow sufferer of FMS, I can say that massage most definitely does help not only to lessen the pain during the massage, but for hours, if not a day or two, afterwards. Personally, I find that deep muscle massage, followed by a few hours why I just relax and drink a lot of water, makes a significant difference in how much pain I experience for the rest day, and sometimes part of the next. Guest guest
I am trying to remember/trace a woman called Ursula (can't remember her surname) who came up with a meditative technique to control pain. I think it was simply called Relaxing into Pain. She was a nurse (?) at the Royal Free hospital in London and started working with cancer patients there in the early/mid 1980s. Any clues? She produced some tapes of guided meditation, and a book, I think. If anyone has heard of her, or her system, I'd be very grateful to hear from you. Thanks Arabella
