(Explore Issue: Volume 7, Number 6) With the birth of their beautiful baby boy, Stephen and Rebecca Vaughn were overjoyed and meticulously recorded through pictures, video and diaries every nuance of his development. After an anaphylactic reaction to a routine MMR (measles-mumps-ruebella) vaccination Alex emotionally began to slip away into a world of his own. Due to Alex's close bond with his parents they noticed the change in his behavior and desperately tried to lovingly engage him in play and interaction with others, but one month passed his second birthday Alex was diagnosed with autism. Medical science has failed to determine the cause of autism, but we do know through specialized testing that the impact is systemic-affecting every system of the body. For Alex and two hundred other children whose blood chemistries and red cell membrane fatty acids we have thoroughly researched, there is gross aberration in the fatty acid metabolism and the electrolyte status of children and adults not only with autism but with seizure activity, developmental delay, traumatic brain injury and cerebral palsy. Alex's parents were determined to save their precious little boy. They began metabolic intervention within two months of his diagnosis. follow link above for the rest of the article and reference information....... Guest guest
Sounds like mercury poisoning. Mercury is in thimerol (sp.?) which is commonly in some vaccines. Guest guest
If anyone read the article in the website below: it has something in it that was rather misleading. The author said that they did not perform trials on a substance called DHA in children like Lorenzo because of the 'fish smell'. That is incorrect. I can tell you now that my late son, (who has a similar but not the same disorder as Lorenzo and it's my son's condition not Lorenzo's where they find they are short in DHA)was taking DHA therapy and IT SMELLED LIKE FISH! Even though it was plant derived, it came from sea algae and as you can imagine it smelled horrible. So, DHA was not ditched because it smelled like fish - I don't think I will ever forget what it smelled like (grin!) We had to store it in the freezer so we wouldn't smell it. Martek quite happily make the stuff and it's available worldwide - not as the author claimed. The Kennedy Krieger Institute have only 'just' completed a double blind study into the effects of DHA therapy on children with my son's condition. Fortunately for us, we were given the real McCoy DHA and did not have to take part in the study - not all doctors are cruel! Secondly, another well known doctor called Dr Martinez in Spain, is currently administering DHA to children like my son. She has also done research into DHA, and is an adamant advocate of it along with a very good 'alternative' diet. I get sick and tired of people who slam the mainstream doctors all the time. Sure, I've met more than my fair share of ignorance and arrogance in the medical profession and I'm too well known for arguing with them and saying what I think (yay!). I too had to push and push until we could get what our son needed - in our under funded health system in New Zealand But I think a little perspective is needed here. I have also met or through e-mail many doctors who were willing to set their minds outside of the square and give my son and many other children a chance. It's the very doctors whom this author is slamming - unfortunately. Let's not perpetuate the cycle of ignorance by unintentional or intentional untruths. Just my two cents worth!
