Guest guest
thanks Twyla for the link. good find. what's more interesting to me about this article than underscoring the need for more CAM to reduce costs is how can we use BJ's methods to better apply measurable outcomes for AOM treatments to increase the effectiveness of the care we provide in the AOM setting. There are also other models of health care (PCP in this case below) that are more viable than our current insurance based system. Michael Fine's book, the Nature of health: How America Lost and Can Regain a Basic Human Value is an excellent read. Check out <http://books.google.com/books?id=VNubqA0HGj4C & pg=PA145 & lpg=PA145 & dq=mic\ hael+fine%2Bthe+nature+of+health & source=bl & ots=ehBXyrDTG0 & sig=w3Jv5h7rtT\ eMa3hHf9A1dYZ7UJw & hl=en & ei=jtfySrHVBtTTlAeLo_m1Aw & sa=X & oi=book_result & ct\ =result & resnum=1 & ved=0CAgQ6AEwAA#v=onepage & q= & f=false> chapter 15--toward a social definition of health on page 145. Besides writing good books, Dr. Fine has developed a model for delivering care in Rhode Island that addresses the needs of people without health insurance. The practice he started, Hillside Family Medicine <http://www.hillsidefamily.com> has figured out a way to provide care to people without insurance, at a fraction of the cost, while still remaining a viable practice. Right now in the midst of all of the discussion about health care in America, Dr. Fine is working to pass legislation in RI that would provide primary care for all. Here is a link <http://fmec.net/pdfs/delivery_system_revised%20final_draft%2008%2018%20\ 09.pdf> to the white paper document on this effort. Underscores the need for and importance of complimentary/alternative, wholistic health care. Public information must be more aggressively channeled to the consumer regarding the cost and life saving efficacy of wholistic and complimentary/alternative/preventive health care.
