I would say that it is generally not a good idea to eat anything

unless you know for sure what it is.

Then again, I often made exceptions to that rule when it came to my

ex-wife's cooking . . .

People do it all the time. Back in Illinois there is a small tree we called the dingle berry tree because it had tiny red berries on it, that grew in 2s. Two berries attached together. All us kids knew it was not good to eat them--our parents had told us that as little kids. But this woman moved to our neighborhood from some other state. One day she came to my house and said "I don't feel so good today" I asked why not. She said "I made a pie from the dingle berry tree and ate some and now I'm sick". She had never asked a single person if the berries were safe to eat, nor had she looked in any native plant book. She just assumed because they were berries they were safe. She was lucky they weren't deadly poison.

Some people use their heads as a hat rack, as my dad always said.

Find it VERY strange that this woman would eat something she knew nothing about!

Mr. rambo,

I hope you contacted Whole Foods to tell them of your experience.

FWIW, I ate some shittake from Whole Foods 2 days ago- got instant liver pain, then weak, and now drooling and sneezing, then diareah. Shittake are good mushrooms, but if you don't watch who and what grows them....... BTW, this particular WF has made me sick 3 times now with their "roll ups". I figured they couldn't screw up the raw mushrooms, but I was wrong. If you want a food tester for contaminants, I am your man. --- On Thu, 7/17/08, Gaiacita <gaiacita wrote:
