Guest guest
[hsibaltimore.com] ***********************************************THIS WEEK IN THE HSI HEALTHIER TALK COMMUNITY Surrender Dorothy…to baby aspirin? No way! Rett: " Dr. Oz told Oprah's viewers and audience this afternoon that two baby aspirin a day is recommended for good heart health. I'm disappointed. I was beginning to think of him as smarter than that. Any comments? " Rkcannon: " It's supposed to be one baby aspirin. But this has risks. Some adapt to it and have no benefit, and if you stop you could have an " event " during surgery. Eating a serving of veggies a day has a better benefit. 2 servings twice. 3 even better etc. Skip the aspirin. " Ginger is given in Israel instead of aspirin. They know better. 1/2 tsp powder daily. Also long term aspirin use even a couple a week greatly increases pancreatic cancer something like 4x in women! Researchers were 'surprised' for some reason. More research needed. " JonB: " No research needed, aspirin is not good, it is an NSAID, so it will upset the digestive system. Ginger is great and also garlic. " Chris: " From my fav doc, Dr. Douglass: An aspirin a day, could put you away " What if you could take one pill every day, a cheap pill available in every grocery store across the United States, and protect yourself from heart attacks and strokes? It seems too good to be true, but this is exactly what experts from Oxford University in England suggest you do. Their report, published in the British Medical Journal, states that 'aspirin therapy should be considered for all patients who are at high risk of heart attack, stroke, and other diseases of the circulation.' " I will agree that there is indisputable evidence, biochemically, that aspirin has wide therapeutic application, since it inhibits the action of prostaglandins-hormone-like substances that constrict the muscle tissue around blood vessels, carry pain signals, and induce inflammation. So aspirin has the potential to dilate blood vessels (by causing the muscles around them to relax), ease pain, and reduce inflammation. But prostaglandins also help stop excess bleeding. Aspirin inhibits this action as well. " I'm going to stick with my great grandma Bell's advice and take my four cod-liver oil capsules twice a day. Cod-liver oil is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to reduce the risks of heart disease and stroke, the same problems doctors prescribe aspirin for. " Scorpiotiger: " Well it doesn't matter to me if I think he is exactly on the mark or not. Dr. Oz is introducing a lot of alternative medicine on Oprah. And she has a huge audience. The more people that hear about it, the more people that get interested in alternative medicine as an option. The more popular, the more impetus for change...
