Guest guest
A novel weapon against fruits and vegetables bacteria Fruits and vegetables should be cleaned not only with water and disinfectants. Some bacteria and fungi can not be eliminated with this procedures. According to a research featured at the American Society of Chemistry in New Orleans (US), ionized radiation would be a better weapon to eliminate bacteria and pathogen parasites. Even if parasites are already at the interior of the fruits or vegetables, with the radiation are eliminated. As explained by, Brendan A. Niemira, research director at USDA. The conclusions are the result of controlled experiments with lettuce and spinach which were inoculated and exposed with solutions full of bacteria. The experiments to clean vegetables include simple water, chemical solutions and irradiation. Effects were completely effective with the irradiation method. The next step is to convince consumers of the irradiation properties.
