Update: Congress Hears from Thousands of Bioidentical Hormone Patients

And the Fight Continues!

Last month, the FDA and Wyeth took a major step to restrict women's

access

to bioidentical hormones.

In response, P2C2 launched an effort to help women ask their members of

Congress to save their access to compounded bioidentical hormones. In

just the first 24 hours, more than 2,000 people took action. To date,

more than

8,100 people have written letters.

This is a strong start, and OUR MESSAGE IS GETTING THROUGH!

If you wrote a letter, you may have received a response from FDA. If so,

<http://iacprx.convio.net/site/R?i=VsPCpf7NPRCaXXVHfsNQGQ..> click here

to

read why what the FDA is saying in those letters is misleading.

We are moving into the second phase of our campaign to save your access

to

bioidentical hormones. As part of this, we are working with our allies

on Capitol Hill to make a strong statement in support of bioidentical

hormones.

We will need your help, so look for an update from P2C2 in the coming

weeks

with information on how you can stay involved!

When Wyeth asked FDA to take this action two years ago, 70,000 people

wrote

to the FDA and asked them to reject this policy. That was a tremendous

record-breaking response, but FDA ignored women and listened to Wyeth!

That's why we're taking our message to Congress this time... and WE NEED

YOUR HELP!

Patients: Oppose Wyeth & FDA Actions to Limit BHRT Access!

As you may be aware, FDA made a horrible decision on January 9,

2008-choosing Wyeth's wealth over women's health. The FDA and Wyeth, a

big drug maker, are trying to stop bio-identical hormone replacement

therapy!

FDA agreed to support Wyeth in their campaign to end access to

compounded

hormone medicines and announced that it will " halt " compounding of

hormone

treatments that contain estriol. Estriol is a common and critical

component

of many bio-identical hormone therapies (including Bi-Est and Tri-Est)

that

meets standards that were established by Congress. If you are not sure

if

you are taking estriol, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Even if you don't

take a medication with estriol, is your hormone or other compounded

treatment next?

If FDA and Wyeth have their way, you will lose this access to vital

treatment options. This action affects hundreds of thousands of women!

We need your help! Please help us by:

GETTING INVOLVED AND FIGHTING BACK!

We are working to engage Members of Congress to call on FDA to reverse

its

decision. We need your help to encourage your Representatives and

Senators

in Congress and to stand up for the rights of women.

Though the details may be personal, we encourage you to discuss the pain

and

discomfort you were experiencing before you tried bio-identical

hormones,

perhaps even discussing other treatments you tried before you discovered

bio-identical hormones worked for you. You may also want to discuss the

positive impact that bio-identical hormones have had on your life since

you

began taking them.

We understand if you would rather not discuss this very private subject

with

anyone but your doctor, but Wyeth and FDA are trying to insert

themselves

into your relationship with your doctor and make decisions on your

behalf.

Fortunately, you are in the best position to stop them.

Simply

<https://secure2.convio.net/iacprx/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage & page=User

Action & id=164> click here to send a letter to each of your

Representatives

and Senators in Congress, as well as a carbon copy to FDA. There, you

will

find a sample letter that you can tailor and send with one click of the

mouse.

Once you've sent your letters, you can also

<https://secure2.convio.net/iacprx/site/Advocacy?alertId=167 & pg=makeACall>

call your members of Congress and tell them why FDA's action supporting

Wyeth is wrong. Use IACP's easy-to-use call alert system. Talking points

and phone numbers for your members of Congress are provided within the

call

alert system.

Also, please

<https://secure2.convio.net/iacprx/site/TellAFriend?msgId=4361.0 & devId=0>

forward this message to your friends who take compounded bio-identical

hormones and other friends who might be willing to speak out on your

behalf.

The time is now for us to take action to save bio-identical hormone

replacement therapy. We need your help to ensure that the FDA and Wyeth

are

not allowed to rob us of the treatments we are prescribed to enjoy

happier,

healthier lives.
