Guest guest
Aha! So they should have said, " The almond and the peach are members of the same family " . Thanks for clearing that up! " Thus the almond and peach are in the same family but neither is in the other's family, as this term (Family) is commonly and taxonomically understood. " Now THAT could be confusing. What you mean is that each of them AREN'T a family, but rather a species, and both are in the same (larger) family [in fact, the same (Prunus) genus]. Gen(i)us RB, Clearing that up " I just wanted you to know " P.S. Pass the peaches AND the almonds (Then we'll have it all covered). SymphonicHealth Re: Amazing fact of the day Posted by: " darocksmom " darocksmom darocksmom Sat Feb 2, 2008 4:22 am (PST) I found the fact amazing and decided to google search it. This is what I found. The almond is frequently, but incorrectly, said to be a member of the peach family. The almond is not a member of the peach family, but rather it is a member of the Rosaceae (Rose) family. The peach also is a member of the Rosaceae (Rose) family. Thus the almond and peach are in the same family but neither is in the other's family, as this term (Family) is commonly and taxonomically understood. Some other well known consumables that are in the same family (Rosaceae): Rosaceae Prunus Dulcis - Almond Rosaceae Prunus Persica - Peach Rosaceae Prunus Domestica - Plum Rosaceae Prunus Cerasus Marasca - Maraschino Cherry Rosaceae Prunus Armeniaca - Apricot Rosaceae Prunus Spinosa - Sloe
