Guest guest
I have a friend with severe bipolar disease. On a scale from 1 to 10, he's definitely a 10 and would be institutionalized or dead if it weren't for prayer, supportive friends and family, and medication. I haven't been around him when he's depressed. I have been around him when he's manic. He can't sleep for days, his mind races, and he even becomes dillusional. He recognizes the phases and so shuts himself away from other people when he's having a bad episode. If he's awake for too many days during a manic episode, he finally starts drinking to try to slow his mind down. My " instincts " tell me that alcohol will make his condition worse. I've read a few things that back up my instincts but my instincts also tell me that environmental influences go much deeper. I can't help but believe that there are more permanent, alternative treatments. I googled " alternative treatments bipolar " and came up with a huge list of ads for single herb treatments and " miracle " cure formulas. There just doesn't seem to be many methodical, logical, non-money-motivated articles about the subject. Plus I came across a lot of contradictory information. Some say fish oil, others say that's bunk. What I'm searching for is a book or a series of well thought out, researched articles that I can evaluate for myself. I'm desparate, frustrated, and frightened for friend especially since I believe with all of my heart he's suffering needlessly. Please don't turn me away, any suggested readings or personal experience you can provide would be a blessing! Thanks so much and God bless, Leslie
