Guest guest
Did she have a blood sugar test for the PCOS? Hormone tests don't always positively identify PCOS. And sometimes not even blood sugar tests will. My hormones tested fine (high normal on testosterone) and my blood sugar was right at the upper limit of normal but I have some of the symptoms: irregular periods, hair growth in the wrong places, infertility (or difficulty getting pregnant), depression (I still have SAD but have also had both SAD and year-round depression in the past). Even though my blood tests were " normal " , I was sure I had PCOS from the symptoms so I went to a class at a local hospital and found out that my blood work could be normal and I could still be insulin resistant. The symptoms are the major indicators. I now have near- normal periods and no year round depression since I've eliminated refined carbs from my diet and only eat dessert once a week. Exercise has helped tremendously, too. I have a friend whose only symptom was infertility. She was a about 120 pounds over-weight and a large part of her diet consisted of refined carbs, especially white flour. I told her she probably had PCOS but she argued that her blood tests were " normal " and she didn't have any other symptoms. She and her husband tried for several years to get pregnant and finally she went to a different OB/GYN who determined she did in fact have PCOS. She changed her dies and started taking a prescription blood sugar regulator, lost weight and finally got pregnant. As far as peri-menopause goes, it's a gradual development. For years society on the whole has believed menopause is a sudden event, only taking a year or two and then 'bam', you're in menopause. But peri- menopause (or pre-menopause) can begin as early as 30 and last for 20 years, gradually becoming more noticeable. I'm just 38 and I've even had a few hot flashes myself. , Jessika Stone <remindersofthen wrote: > > She actually just got all her hormones tested to see if she had PCOS and to see if she is going through menopause. It turned out negative for both. She is only 44 years old. Her period has been very weird the past few years, I kept telling her that she is probably pre menopausal, but it turns out shes not. > > Leslie <geogal wrote: I wonder if it could be related to her hormones?
