Guest guest
I read a very good article about population growth last year in Scientific American called " Crossroads for Planet Earth " . I still have a (very badly beaten, but well loved) copy of that issue, its a special edition. It gave all sorts of statistics about the expected changes to the population of Earth and many countries that should be taking place within the next few generations. If I can remember right, the human population is actually leveling off. They expect it to finish leveling at around 9 billion, with a high projection being around 12 billion and a low projection being in the high 7 billion range. At the same time, for the first time in human history there will be more people over the age of 40 than under. There were a lot of really interesting facts in there, since it was a special edition, perhaps you can get a back issue of it. But I suspect if u factor out the legal and illegal immigration to the US, the birth rate would be rather low; those poor souls who went thru the US education system unlearn the value of a family, thus many broken family units, large number of terminated pregnancies, small number of children being born, and fewer folks who r willing to start a family.
