Guest guest Posted March 5, 2007 Report Share Posted March 5, 2007 I would submit that there's more to a republic than simply having representative democracy instead of direct democracy. There's the idea of limited constitutonal government -- so that everything is NOT determined by majority rule, either directly or indirectly. This is the idea of freedom vs. democracy. We indeed live in a republic. Most people confuse our government with that of a democracy where everything is run by an actual vote of every single person involved.
