Jury Finds Merck Guilty In Vioxx Case

Trenton, NJ (AHN) - A New Jersey jury found drug maker Merck negligent

in regards to its arthritis painkiller Vioxx. The jury found that

Merck did not properly warn users of the drug's cardiovascular risks.

The suit was brought by former Vioxx users who suffered heart attacks.

The second part of the trial is expected to begin soon and will deal

with whether or not the plaintiff deserves monetary damages.

The jury found Merck had violated the state's consumer fraud law. The

company pulled the drug from shelves in September 2004.
