Guest guest
I've been trying to explain this to my boyfriend about the war and other political issues. You see, the people of the United States have, in general, become very lazy. Its hard to see when you don't work for them (as my boyfriend doesn't). I do work them, in a very servant like capacity in which I have practically sacrificed all my rights for the good of the constitution and through it the people (at least I hope I'm doing that, I'm trying very hard to do it). The government of the United States is set up to serve the people. We the People are its boss. We like to talk about all the freedom we get as a result of this, but the truth is that when the few of us who actually do vote go to do so, we think we are voting for a leader. No. We are supposed to be the leader. The elected officials are just supposed to represent our wants and needs as we direct them to. Unfortunately, it takes work to actively run a country, and the vast majority of Americans would rather just have someone they feel to be more qualified do it for them, assuming, rather foolishly, that that person will know whats best for them better than they know themselves. It is that person that most people vote for, and that is all the more say the people take in how the country is run. Organizations like the FDA are just an extension of that. Rather than taking care of themselves and learning on their own what will help them, the people would rather have some (enter sarcastic tone here -->) all knowing, magical government organization decide for them. Its much easier to do something someone else tells you to do than to go through the trouble to make an informed descision yourself. To be honest, I can't say I entirely blame the people for not wanting to take on responsibility for their own persons. In America we work longer hours and get less vacation time than almost every other first world country. We are burdened with a cost of living and taxes that is unreasonably high for having hardly any social programs to help us (Europeans have higher taxes and cost of living, but look at all the social programs they have, if I'm going to be paying European prices I expect to be living a European lifestyle). Most of us, myself included, don't use the vacation time we have because we can't afford to go anywhere. No wonder we don't want to run the country on top of that, we're too tired! Not to mention our education system is, last I read, 16th in the country, are we really educated enough to run a country? Its the sad state of things, I'm afraid. " Misty L. How many people would read that sentence, without the foreword, in this article and not even bat an eye? How about the ideal of having pharmaceuticals in charge of the herbs and not having them in the health food stores. How about why the FDA would want to know the " active ingredient " or if there are any benefits to knowing the " active ingredient " How have we come to place so much trust in people to look after us, and their principles, when upon further examination they don't seem worthy of it?
