Guest guest
Hi everyone.. Since so many people replied through the poll that they want to know more about herbs, I thought this might fit the bill... If you haven't responded to our poll, please do so here at www.searching- alternatives.com (look on the left for the option of " Polls " .) The feedback is a great help to me.. My only concern about this article is the solid endorsement for Standardized Herbs- where you know to a certainity how much of the active ingredient your getting. What is the problem with that? Well, it is not unheard of to discover years later what scientists thought were the active ingredient- weren't And can we even say that X,Y & Z ingredients are the active ingredient? I believe nature put them all (A-Z) together for a reason- for a synergistic affect. But that is only my .02 cents. Misty L. Trepke www..com On to Herb-Of-The Week / Reviewing Black Cohosh For Hot Flashes A Hot Flash is a caused by blood flow disturbances that result from hormonal changes. The duration, frequency, and intensity of hot flashes vary widely among women. Black Cohosh, once used extensively by Native Americans has become world renowned as an effective hot flash herbal remedy. It belongs to the buttercup family, but only the roots of the plant are harvested for use as an herb for hot flash. Additionally black cohosh used because of its ability to relieve menstrual cramps and night sweats. Experts believe it works because it can reduce the levels of a hormone that is produced by the body in higher amounts during menopause. The increase of this hormone--called luteinizing hormone--is postulated as one of the causes of hot flashes and other menstrual symptoms. The use of black cohosh for symptoms of PMS should be avoided during pregnancy and nursing. Also some studies show that it may interfere with the functioning of certain types of prescription medications, such as birth control. Overall black cohosh is used extensively in other countries such as Germany and is considered a very safe herb for hot flash, and has no known toxicity. Many women are turning to black cohosh as a hot flash remedy alternative to HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy), which has many negative side effects, such as substantially increasing the risk for getting breast and ovarian cancers. It is extremely important that when purchasing herbs, whenever possible, try to get the STANDARDIZED EXTRACTS. Standardized extracts contain the highest amount of active ingredient; it is the active ingredients that are responsible for the herb's medicinal and therapeutic benefits. Lastly, be sure that your black cohosh herb product for hot flash remedy does not contain any cheap fillers and additives . But why take my word for any of it? Use a good search engine like www.google.com or mamma.com or dogpile.com and do your own research.
