Guest guest
Sports Drinks Dissolve Teeth Researchers at the University of Birmingham have warned that their research shows sports drinks are up to 30 times more erosive to teeth than water. The researchers found that the drinks can dissolve tooth enamel and the hard dentine underneath, exposing the pulp, reports the BBC. There were three main reasons for the dangerous nature of sports drinks. The drinks have high acidity levels, designed to increase shelf life. Also exercise can lead to reduced saliva production and a drier mouth, which increases erosion potential. Lastly, because athletes sweat a lot, they lose a lot of fluid and have to replace it, so they drink more than most people.
