How does this get into the body? Why isn't it washed off?

About 60% of what you put on the skin is absorbed into the body. Many body

care products also have carrier agents like Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) to get

the so called beneficial ingredients of the lotion into the body faster.

Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) In itself is carcinogenic and along with the good

ingredients it also carries the bad ingredients into the body faster. That

which is

washed off of our bodies finds its way into our lakes and streams and effects

our fish and other wildlife. Many of the chemicals we use in this country are

banned in Europe. For an excellent discussion of this issue see the report

tittled " Skin Deep " on the Environmental Working Group site www.ewg.org

Since 1938 the cosmetic companies have been self regulating and allowed to

use all but 9 chemicals in their products. We have all assumed they were safe

because nobody told us otherwise. In the meantime we have all been

accumulating these chemicals and passing them on to our children. For a good

article on

this see www.bodyburden.org We all need to do our own research and decide

whether we want to continue to buy into this commercialized myth of beauty and

become toxic waste dumps. Or if we want explore more natural alternatives.

Remember also, that natural and organic are marketing buzz words and don't often

mean anything. If a product is certified organic, it is certified by a 3rd

party certifying agency to be at least 95% organic (not including water) and it

will display the logo of the certifying agency on the product. As a general

rule of thumb, when reading a product label the first 3rd of the ingredients

comprise about 90-95% of the product. So if the first 3rd are all chemicals.

you are basically applying a chemical soup to your skin. Two good books on this

issue are " Drop Dead Gorgeous " and " Beauty to Die For "
