Guest guest
Oh, no, it's all straight supplements I found in research. I can't really claim a something's better because it's a certain brand (assuming equal quality), when in my experience some brands are better for some but not others. I did end up as part of several different MLMs to get products at wholesale though. But I'm not very brand loyal, if the product works. Guest guest
Hi Gina - Things are really crazy so I can't go into this with my usual depth and passion. :-) Probably a good thing. So in a nutshell, in the late 60's Bernard Rimland discovered Vitamin B6 and magnesium have a huge impact on brain function. Adelle Davis wrote that allergies could be a Pantothenic Acid deficiency. Celiac was a rare disease that presented in childhood. In a more recent book (like 70's, LOL), someone else described it as the limbic system (animal response) in control instead of the neocortex, conscious choices. IT'S ALL INTERCONNECTED. You cannot treat just one symptom. In my son it started with vaccine reactions, though we didn't know that's what it was at the time. Something changed in his digestive system so that he started getting sick with ear infections at nearly 3 yrs old. Turns out his gut was leaking undigested protein into his blood, which had some chemical effect on his brain. I am not a doctor, this is what I believe happened based on my research. He had glue ear, was on antibiotics for 9 months (!) which amplified the gut damage exponentially, allowing more negative brain chemistry to happen. Anyway, the end result was Asperger's and food allergies. Doctor said I was just too stressed. I did my research, found a kinesiologist who tested him for all the supplements I knew to try; she identified the allergies and gut problems. We put him on a nutrient regime that had him popping handfuls of pills 4 times a day. We removed wheat and artificial colors from his diet. We continued cranio-sacral therapy. We saw IMMEDIATE improvements, and watched him turn into the Tasmanian devil (limbic system kicking in) within minutes of getting a dye. It was very dramatic. Later we included the Feinstein diet and it really fine tuned the improvements. The systems you may need to address are digestive/gut and resulting food allergies, and brain support. Each person needs different things in different amounts. Supplements we rely on for brain function are B6, Magnesium, some nervous system support. He gets digestive aid (enzymes, sometimes specific enzymes), gut flora, no wheat or artificial ingredients, fiber supplement. A good idea that one needs boatloads (use reason here!) of magnesium are slow bowels. You need to heal the gut to stop the brain damage. In My Opinion, of course. His progress has been immense. He went from Asperger's to " ADHD " (funny, from obsessive to distracted?? Please) They wanted to hold him back in kindergarten but we placed him in 1st, where he excelled. He continues to hold very good grades 2 years later. There is a lot of brain chemistry information available now that I could incorporate if I had the time to research it in-depth and the money to try it. Incidentally, my younger son never had the illnesses or antibiotics (no vaccines) but does need a gluten-free diet. He was diagnosed by an MD that uses kinesiology and nutrition. Turns out that with a Dr's note you can deduct GF food on taxes since it's medically necessary. Too bad we can't deduct the supplements. Maybe the ones he recommends? I should look into that... I defintely would like to know what supplements you have tried. I appreciate your story because sometimes i think people look at me like I am the bad mom because I have had an unruly child and they lacked understanding about why.. as did I. I was lost for a time and just wnated the agression etc.. to end.. it was frustrating to say the least, as you well know! Thanks again, Gina
