Guest guest
A few things that come to my mind when it comes to hair loss are 1) dehydration - is she drinking enough water? 2) thyroid - does she also have dry skin? perhaps she should have her thyroid checked, and 3) protein - if she is not getting enough protein in her diet it's possible this will show with the hair becoming brittle and breaking off. I'm sure there are other possible causes, but those are the things that come to the top of my mind up front. Guest guest
Sounds like she needs to get on a vitamin regimen that would include something for the adrenals and thyroid and maybe even a progesterone cream. Is she eating a lot of junk food? Malinda trep12tide [trep12tide] Tuesday, February 01, 2005 1:13 PM [s-A] Rapid Hair Loss My eleven year old daughter has been losing portions of her hair throughout the year and it has caused quite a concern. Her doctor referred us to a dermatologist and he suggested that the result was my daughter pulling her hair. My daughter does not pull her hair or have any nervous habits with her hair. The dermatologist also suggested counseling, becuase it could be stress related. My daughter had another appointment with her doctor and he suggests that the problem is Telogen Effluvium, which is an abnormal loss of hair due to the alteration of the normal hair cycle. Is there anything natural that can be taken to stimulate the hair growth? My daughter's hair does not come out in clumps, but it seems that it is breaking off half-way. Could the hair loss be caused by a food allergy? Any input would be most welcome. Thank you, Dave ---------- --
Guest guest
>>>My daughter's hair does not come out in clumps, but it seems that it is breaking off half-way. Could the hair loss be caused by a food allergy?<<< Dave, Hair will grow back if the hair loss has been caused by poor diet, vitamin deficiency, iron deficiency, poor circulation and past acute illness or thyroid disease. Occasionally, factors such as stress, nutrition, altered immunity and hormonal imbalances have a role to play and intervention can improve the situation. A large number of essential nutrients are involved in healthy hair growth. These include: * all the essential amino acids, especially cysteine and methionine * vitamin A, biotin, vitamin B12, PABA (para amino benzoic acid), other B complex vitamins * unsaturated fatty acids (primrose, flaxseed, linseed, salmon, borage, black currant) * vitamin C, * vitamin E, * coenzyme Q 10,) * silica, zinc, copper and iron Ensuring an adequate intake of these in the diet or through supplementation enhances the health of the hair, skin and nails. To rule out a problem with thyroid, take her basal temp 10 minutes prior to her feet hitting the floor in the morning and let me know the results. In the meantime I would encourage you to try " wholefood supplements " rather than trying individual vitamin and mineral combinations. Warmest Regards, Christine Christine K.
