Aromatherapy for Dry Skin

Dry skin from winter conditions pertaining to dry heat, overheated

apartments and homes, fireplaces can all cause the skin to crack and

become depleted of moisture. Dry skin is the result of a deficiency

in the oil and moisture that are required to keep the skin

lubricated resulting in flaking, scaling, and cracking.

Drinking at least 8 - 8 ounce glasses of water a day helps keep the

skin hydrated and the internal organs functioning smoothly.

Lavender Essential Oil: Lavender is often called the universal oil,

because you can use it for so many things. It is analgesic, anti-

coagulant, anti-convulsive, anti-depressant, anti-fungal, anti-

infectious, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-spasmodic, anti-

toxic, cardiotonic, and is a sedative. It has a very balancing

effect on the body, emotions, mind and spirit. It may help

acne, allergies, arthritis, asthma, boils, bronchitis, and is

excellent for burns of any type. It has been used for cramps,

dandruff, depression, diaper rashes, earaches, eczema,

fainting, flatulance, hair loss, headaches, high blood pressure,

indigestion, insect bites and repellant, infection, flu, insomnia,

laryngitis, helps to detoxify the lymphatic system, migraines,

nausea, nervous tension. PMS, psoriasis, rashes, helps to

prevent scarring, sprains, stress, stretch marks, sunstroke,

throat infections, tuberculosis, typhoid fever, thrush, water

retention, and wounds. It can be applied on the vitaflex points

or directly on the area of concern.

Tea Tree Essential Oil: This germicide and antibacterial oil is

great for cleaning infected wounds or as a gargle for a sore throat -

- use a 10-percent solution but use pure 100-percent tea tree oil.

Rose Essential Oil: The Mother of All Flowers, the Rose has amazing

powers of love, trust and self acceptance. Roses are representative

of faith, hope and love and has the qualities to restore the very

center of one's being. A gentle tonic of the heart, Rose oil's

psychological properties lie mainly in its effect on the mind, the

center of our emotional being. Rose oil calms and supports the heart

and helps to nourish the soul!

Sandalwood Essential Oil: In Chinese medicine it is used to treat

stomach ache, vomiting, gonorrhea, choleric difficulties and skin

complaints. In India it is often combined with rose in the famous

scent " Aytar " . In aromatherapy it is used for acne, dry, cracked and

chapped skin, greasy skin, and as a moisturizer. It is used for

bronchitis, catarrh, coughs (dry persistent), laryngitis, sore

throat, diarrhea, nausea, cystitis, depression, insomnia, nervous

tension and stress-related complaints. Extensively used as a

fragrance component and fixative in soaps, detergents, cosmetics and

perfumes.

For dry, flaky skin, mix together two tablespoons of oatmeal, two

tablespoons of cornmeal, and two tablespoons of wheat germ or ground

almonds. Mix well by hand or in a blender with one teaspoon of honey

and enough water to make a paste. When well blended, add six drops

of two of the above essential oils. Use this as a gentle scrub for a

few minutes, then rinse well with warm water.

Use two of the above essential oils combined with a carrier oil, or

fragrance and lanolin free skin lotion or cream and massage into the

affected areas.
