Today I have a few and I hope people take them to heart. > > You can also use a few drops of eucalyptus oil in boiling water or in a bath as an inhalant. ****Eucalyptus is great to inhale when you're all stuffed up and feeling unwell. Please keep your eyes closed whenever inhaling any steam containing Essential Oils. You cannot put an Essentail Oil into your bath water and expect it to be diluted. E.O.s are NOT water soluable. they are FAT SOLUABLE. You can dilute 3-5 drops of E.O.s into a tablespoon of: carrier oil [sweet Almond, for ex.] bath salts - epsom salt, sea salt WHOLE FAT milk Add this to your bath when the bath is 2/3 full and you'll have a nice bath. Without diluting the E.O.s you can risk sensitization. If you become sensitized to an oil the body will see it as foreign and it cannot help to heal you anymore. Carrier oils can make the bath slippery so be mindful of this. Frankly, sea salt is cheaper and can also be used in cooking and has a longer shelf life. I use them in the kitchen and for the bath. Milk has to be whole fat, not 2% or skim or any reduced fat milk. > > Eucalyptus is often used for - Sore muscles, Insect repellant, > Tension headache, Cold, Cough, Sinusitis, Rheumatoid > arthritis, and Strains/sprains. I've never heard that Euc. is good for insect repllant. Anyone know which sort of pests it's good for? My info. sheet on Euc. [i get it from the store I buy from] also indicates its use for bronchitis, flu, pneumonia, burns, wounds and ulcers. I also have in my notes that it is helpful when you sense you need a bit of a nudge to get moving on making a change in your life or when you feel bogged down. [Try it with Lime for this, to get you started and to carry you through. IMO the Lime is better smelling anyway.] Eucalyptus and Lemon are great for the immune system. I'm using this now with my kids b/c we're coming into the time of year when people cough or sneeze on you. It smells great and will just help to boost us through this time. I have a custom blend of eucalyptus and lemon with fractionated coconut oil. I can add it to any diffuser pad or apply it safely on the skin b/c it is pre-diluted. > Safety: Before taking Eucalyptus, tell your doctor if you are > pregnant or breastfeeding. Eucalyptus oil or eucalyptol should > not be taken by mouth or put on the skin without diluting. Do not take if you have liver disease. Do not take if you have inflammation (soreness) in your intestinal tract (colon). Less than a teaspoonful of the undiluted oil may cause death. ****Children HAVE died from drinking Eucalyptus Essential Oil. This is a very true and sad fact. Keeping oils out of reach of kids and educating the kids to think of them as medicine that only mom/dad can administer is a great idea. My kids will often ask for a particular oil and I am surprised time and again that they KNOW what they are talking about. Even so, they would no more touch my E.O.s shelf [in my room, high on a wall] than they would cough syrup or any pills of any kind. Do not use on the face on children or infants, especially around the nose. Stop taking your medicine right away and talk to your doctor if you have any of the following side effects. Your medicine may be causing these symptoms which may mean you are allergic to it. Breathing problems or tightness in your throat or chest, Chest pain, Skin hives, rash, or itchy or swollen skin. You may have the following side effects, but this medicine may also cause other side effects. Tell your doctor if > you have side effects that you think are caused by this medicine. Undiluted eucalyptus oil (or oil that has not been diluted enough) may cause stomach upset, vomiting (throwing up), dizziness, muscle weakness, confusion, and convulsions (uncontrolled shaking). ****I think it is excellent that the precautions are listed in this article. Following precautions is just good sense. My info. says Euc. is TOXIC when used internally, is not to be used with epilepsy and may call redness of skin. Use with caution when using in dermal applications [safely diluted applications] with young kids. > > Dosage: Eucalyptol (also called cineole): 0.05 to 0.2 > milliliters (this is less than one drop) by mouth. If using eucalyptol do not take it undiluted, mix 10 teaspoons of water with one of eucalyptol, then use between 10 to 40 drops of this mixture. ****I cannot say this firmly enough " WATER WILL NOT DILUTE THIS OR ANY OTHER ESSENTIAL OIL " . If you don't believe me you can go to http://www.casaromawellness.com/ and click the " ask questions " button. They have certified aromatherapists who are always happy to help educate and inform the public about safety and E.O.s. If you feel the need to take Eucalyptus by mouth [which I wouldn't allow - ever] diluting with milk will be more logical though I cannot imagine it to be safer. Drinking the Eucalyptus tea would be your better option. One drop of E.O. is like 100 cups of tea. That's how very powerful these pure essences are. >Eucalyptus Oil: use the same dose and instructions as with eucalyptol for use by mouth. For use on the skin, 6 teaspoons of eucalyptus oil may be mixed with 16 ounces of water, and then some of the mixture is applied to the skin. Fluid Extract, leaf: 2 to 4 grams, by mouth. ****Again, I wouldn't allow this to happen in my house. In fact, if I saw a complete stranger try to do this I would jump in and caution them. If you want to use a compress [for cuts, for example] all you need to do is dilute the E.O.s in salt. 3 drops of E.O.s to 1 Tablespoon E.O. Add enough water [warm or cold depending on your needs] to disolve the salt/E.O. mix. Soak a cloth in the mixture, wring out and apply to body. > > Contraindications: Do not take Eucalyptus without talking to > your doctor first if you are taking High blood sugar medicine > (examples: insulin, Glucophage® metformin, DiaBeta® Glynase® glyburide). > > > Andrew Pacholyk, MS, L.Ac. > Peacefulmind.com > Therapies for healing > mind, body, spirit > ****It always amazes me how many smart and well-meaning people can fail to grasp the simplest fact - E.O.s are not water soluable. It may seem like something silly to be concerned about but I'm telling you it is important. Even my seven year old kids know the 7 precautions to use with ANY Essential Oil. It's all about education, isn't it? Makes me look forward to my Level 3 aromatherapy class later this month. I now appreciate just how devoted they are to consumer safety to offer these classes. It also shows me how beneficial it is that I teach my kids these things. They will grow up with this knowledge and even share it, perhaps, and be safe while enjoying E.O.s.
