Guest guest
Thought I'd share a few things I learned last Sunday at an aromatherapy training session. The session was 4 hours long and gave a basic intro. to E.O.s and covered 10 E.O.s in depth. They gave us notes and I still took 4 pages of notes myself b/c the speaker was so trained/exp. that she gave great tangential info. The basics: Across Canada the mindset is that we do NOT ingest any E.O.s for any reason. The ideology in Europe is generally different. Just know this when you read different books and consider the origin. This wellness center does not recommend the use of any E.O.s during the first trimester of pregnancy. This course taught us to NEVER put undiluted oils on the skin. Not even tea tree or lavender. The concentration is far too high. one drop of pure peppermint oil = 100 cups of peppermint tea. Eventually your body will see the oil as foreign and sensitization happens. For kids use half of what you would use for adults. for pets use even less than that. ***Essential oils are NOT water soluable. A drop of oil in water does not dilute it, it creates thousands of smaller drops of concentrated oil. For the bath blend the E.O.s with a carrier oil or even in a few tablespoon of WHOLE FAT milk. THEN add to the bath. Safer and more enjoyable than reactions. Always check precautions for individual oils. A good store/center will give you a print out about the oil you've just bought. Much like a prescription info. sheet. BUT it will also have info. on how to use it for mind and body. My sheets are broken down by body systems as well. Buyer beware. There are no legal requirements in Canada for labeling b/c E.O.s are not food. " 100% pure " can mean that one drop was pure. the rest of the bottle could be " bulked up " with a natural filler that has no smell and may even be " safe " . OR it can be bulked up with a synthetic that may not be safe. Pay for cold-pressed carrier oils without preservatives if you plan to use in massage. What's in the oil gets into you. For citrus oils try to buy oils that used organic fruit rinds. Some oils are " quick in and quick out " . the works fast but not for long [citrus] and others can be measured in the blood HOURS after smelling the oil. [sandalwood has been tested 24 hours later] Good oils will have on the label: English name LATIN name country of origin When blending oils be in a well ventilated area. Do not overuse any one oil always for the same problem. Vary the oils. Peppermint usually enhances other oils. The average 5ml bottle will have 125 drops of oil. General ratio for massage [if I understood correctly] 1/2 the number of drops : number of mls of carrier oil Ex. - using 30 ml of carrier oil allows UP TO 15 drops of E.O. but, you may not need that much. Ways to use E.O.s *diffused into air through heat *personal scenter [2 pieces of felt with pillow stuffing inside. drop the oils into the center stuffing and wear in bra or pocket.] *spa scenter - diffused by cold [fan] and not heat *bath *compress *massage Holler if I didn't make something clear, dawne New and Improved Mail - Send 10MB messages!
