Inhibiting Indigestion

Bloating, constipation, gas, heartburn, diarrhea, anxiety,

overeating, stress, improper food combinations, food allergies,

additives, low fiber, nutritional imbalances, spicy foods, as well

as, the aging process itself are all contributing factors to

indigestion. Keep a food diary to track causes. Digestive enzymes

may help you find relief.

Indigestion refers to any number of gastrointestinal complaints,

which can include gas or wind and upset stomach. Heartburn is a

burning feeling caused by stomach acid regurgitating into the

esophagus from the stomach. If the burning is in the stomach, the

problem is not heartburn but indigestion or perhaps gastritis or

even a stomach ulcer.

Heartburn is a condition called hiatus hernia. With this condition,

a small portion of the stomach gets caught in the sphincter that

separates the esophagus from the stomach. A hiatus hernia usually

does not require any specific therapy, but any accompanying

gastroesophageal reflux should get treatment. This same condition

can occur if there is a defective sphincter between the esophagus

and the stomach.

INDIVIDUAL HERBS

Ginger is a stimulant, carminative, given in dyspepsia and flatulent

colic excellent to add to bitter infusions; specially valuable in

alcoholic gastritis; of use for diarrhea from relaxed bowel where

there is no inflammation. Great for nausea. The roots help cleanse

the colon, reduces cramps and spasms. Strong antioxidant.

Licorice is Anti viral, anti-inflammatory, soothes gastric mucous

membranes. The root cleanses the colon, increases fluidity of mucous

in the lungs and bronchial tubes. Beneficial for asthma, chronic

fatigue, digestive, depression, fever, and allergic disorders. Short

usage period (7 days) only at one time.

Slippery Elm is a demulcent, a substance that restores the normal

mucous coating on irritated tissues. It helps heal irritated tissues

of the gastrointestinal tract.

HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES:

This medical system uses infinitesimal doses of natural substances

to stimulate a person's immune system and body's natural defenses.

Homeopathic remedies are named for the plant or animal ingredients

they are made from. Homeopathy not only offers relief from temporary

disorders but, can provide long term healing of a person due to its

individual and " wholistic " approach. This often leads to a complete

recovery from the dis-ease, as well as, providing an improved

understanding of the patient's situation. This type of healing makes

it easier and possible to avoid recurrence or relapses in the future

and, homeopathy stimulates the body's natural defense system by

reestablishing normal immune system and cell functioning.

INDIGESTION:

Nux Vomica 6c: for symptoms of occur after overindulgence of food

and drink such as irritability, sensitivity to sound, nausea that

improves after vomiting. Also symptoms such as stomach acid backup

in the esophagus, and constipated.

Cargo Vegetabilis 6c: if symptoms occur after overeating such as

foul flatulence, sour belching that brings temporary relief or

sitting by an open window for air.

Lycopodium 6c: if symptoms occur even after a small meal and have

feelings of a rumbling stomach and trapped gas in the abdomen.

Worsens when lying down or improves after belching.

NUTRITION

Water is essential in any healing process. Distilled water is the

best. 6-8 eight ounces glasses per day.

Lactose intolerance can cause many digestive problems, including

gas, cramps, and diarrhea; in such cases, the lactase enzyme can be

helpful when taken before consuming dairy products. Pancreatic

enzymes, which include lipase, aids in the digestion of fats and

acts as a digestive aid.

Probiotics, such as acidophilus, promote healthy digestion. Enzymes

secreted by probiotic bacteria also aid digestion. Acidophilus is a

source of lactase enzyme, which is needed to digest milk but is

lacking in lactose-intolerant individuals.
