There are 2 kinds of metallic unions, or alloys. There are chemical unions, such as bronze, where each ingredient is bound up chemically in the new alloy. There are mechanical unions, such as dental amalgams, where each ingredient retains its characteristics. Mercury in dental amalgam expands and contracts with heat and cold. This is a major reason for filling failure. .. Mercury easily oxidizes and corrodes - new silver fillings are bright silver color, while older ones are grayish. The mercury has a high vapor pres-sure, as in mercury vapor lamps, and is released from " silver' fillings (which contain 50+% mercury). It's toxic, and when released harms body and mind functions. We can actually measure the mercury as it exudes from the fillings. Many DDSs have used the Jerome Analyzer to demonstrate this fact. Any college chemistry major will confirm these facts.
