Our bodies need far more water than most people think or do drink. However, it is an american habit to drink the main fluids of the day with a meal. This IS problematic, as the water does wash out the enzymes too quickly - the enzymes needed to adequately digest the food. Drinking tons of fluid with a meal in a hope of preventing or alleviating constipation will likely have the opposite effect. Dilute the enzymes, food doesn't get properly digested, sits in the gut. However, drinking lots of fluid, LOTS of fluid, between meals, is very beneficial and absolutely nonharmful. As in 8 glasses at least for an average weight individual, more for additional weight or person who does heavy exercise. Joy>
