Guest guest
Hello all, Am finding sugar my biggest hurdle to healthier living. Desperately need advice/suggestions/support. We tossed the microwave and we don't even miss it. We're eating our heavy meal mid-day and even that isn't too hard to get used to. We're going to buy a water cooler and spring water. We have salad everyday - even the picky/stubborn child is cooperating, BUT... I CAN'T get the Stevia to work. I feel so disappointed about that. I've made 3 different recipes [i love to bake] so far. 1 of them looked and smelled delicious. The stevia aftertaste was so awful that even the dog wouldn't eat it! and she usually loves apple cake. The cupcakes I made with stevia and carob they liked. The cookie recipe was a disaster! I have just gotten the Stevia Cookbook from the library so I will try a few more things. But still, my enthusiasm wanes. I have spoken with one health store. The general consensus is that the stevia aftertaste is what it is. It's an aquired taste and if you want to use stevia you have to get used to it. one women told me how people cut stevia with chicory [about 10 times more chicory] and how that helps. But again, she said " stevia is stevia " and our North American taste buds want sugar. I have not been able to find Xylitol, in any form. I can easily buy Fructose Date Sugar Turbinado sugar chicory stevia honey Any suggestions? The fructose looks like white sugar only slightly 'better' b/c of less processing. I don't know if this is even worth my time or money. I am especially interested in type 2 Diabetes prevention and with having good digestion. recipes would be helpful. how you transistioned from sugar to a healthy alternative would be helpful. some sweetner that I haven't listed would be great. recipes that work well for you using honey, stevia or a stevia-chicory blend would be appreciated. Is stevia really stevia or are some brands better? REally any light you can shed on this subject would be great. The one bright spot in this whole situation is the packet of stevia/chicory I bought for 9cents. I used it to make a cup of tea and it was different but pleasant. I could train myself to drink tea this way. It is sweet to swallow and then a bit of aftertaste but it isn't bitter. Many thanks, Dawne Friends. Fun.
