Guest guest
OUR ROMANCE WITH MAGNETS We see magnets everywhere - in self-health catalogues, in stores, and dentists even use them for artificial denture retention. Books on pain relief with magnets are popular. Like drugs, magnets can give temporary relief from some symptoms, but we need to be careful. What are magnets' side effects? See what John Diamond, MD, writes in Your Body Doesn't Lie, Warner Communications: " Our sensitivity to magnetic fields can be demonstrated very easily. Place the north pole of a magnet, say, 1,000 or 2,000 gauss -- at the right ear of a test subject. (Why there, I do not know, but I have found it to be a very powerful point.) [We could add that this is the sensitive TMJ point, on which are represented almost every point of the acupuncture meridian energy circuits.] Almost invariably, the indicator muscle will test weak [upon kinesiologic testing], an effect that does not occur if the south pole of the magnet is tested at the same point. On the other hand, though, if you place the south pole at the left ear, the muscle again goes weak. " A major significance of Dr. Diamond's observation is that he found that the weakening effect of the magnet also causes an asyn-chronization of activity between the two cere-bral hemispheres, a switching effect, which is an imbalance of energies between them. A 'switched' person is a confused person. " Doctor, did you tell me to take 2 pills 3 times a day - or 3 pills 2 times a day? " When you ask a switched dental patient to turn her head to the right, she turns to the left. If magnets switch people, think what a magnetic car seat could do when one needs to make a quick decision! Dr. Diamond also found that it upsets the balance between the parasympathetic and the sympathetic nervous systems and all the stress to the body that this implies. It makes it so much more difficult to get to a state of homeostasis, if at all. Beyond that, he found that it raises havoc with the acupuncture meridian energy circuits. This negatively affects every organ of the body. Can we begin to even imagine the effect that all this has on one's immune system, on his healing capacity? Can we begin to see the similarity existing between magnets and drugs? There's a great similarity in the part that money and controlling symptoms play in the use of magnets and drugs. Should we use magnets near the head for healing? [from the L.A. Times] " California Institute of Technology researchers have discovered tiny magnetic particles in the brains of humans similar to those that have been found in animals. In numerous species such as pigeons, salmon, and whales, the magnetic particles allow them to navigate in the Earth's magnetic fields, an inborn direction sense. It's not clear whether humans have this ability, said geobiologist Joseph Kirschvink. 'We don't know what magnets do or where they hide in the cells, but their discovery could help explain the reported link between cancer and electro-magnetic fields produced by power lines and appliances.' [Dr. Diamond's work resonates with this.] The magnetic particles are composed of magnetite, a naturally occurring mineral. These particles are extremely tiny, as small as a million to an inch. This explains why they have not been observed before. They are virtually identical to those found in other organisms and appear to be distributed throughout the brain. " These findings suggest that the use of magnetic therapy, like magnetic beds and magnets applied near the head, can be dangerous. Although anecdotal, we know of cases where subjects perceived malaise from the use of magnetic mattress covers. Their problems were relieved when the magnets were discarded. We've seen the use of magnet head bands for quieting headaches, but what else are they doing to the brain? LOOK AT THIS: Hormones and complex chemical message bearers link the body's various systems, organs, and individual cells themselves. -- Our nervous system also shunts energy signals between different parts of the body. -- A third system by which different parts of the body communicate and help to coordinate its functions is the acupuncture meridian energy system. So sensitive is the meridian energy system that an acupuncturist or a kinesiologist can actually tell of weaknesses in the body even before lab tests are able to pick up the pending problem. For example, let us say that lab tests show the liver to be in good functioning order at that time. But the liver acupuncture meridian tests weak. It is quite probable, that unless the cause of the weakness in the liver meridian is corrected, the lab tests would soon also show trouble in the liver. This is only one indication of the importance of the meridian energy circuit system. Look at this. Let us say that we have a good flow of energy to the liver. We then somehow interfere with the liver energy flow. By so doing, we deprive the liver of its necessary meridian energy. We can expect that over time, this interference will have a debilitating effect. This is exactly what magnets can do. They interfere with the natural meridian energies. Again from John Diamond's Your Body Doesn't Lie: " We are constantly being affected by magnetic fields around us. Even though this is not yet part of so-called orthodox medical thinking, [or lack of it] experimental work has shown that weak magnetic waves can alter brain rhythms. In fact, the body itself is a system of electromagnetic energy. " [Can you imagine doing an electrocardiogram while the patient is lying on a magnetic table cover?] Bio-Energist Ze'ev Kolman reads clients' auras before giving them energies. He is able to diagnose many problems on the basis of what he sees. I, on one occasion, actually saw his aura, a bright golden glow up his left side, across and around his head, and down the other. He warned me not to get involved with magnets, because they disrupt the body's aura, the body's energy field, and who can really tell at what cost to an individual's health. His work parallels that of John Diamond. We're all familiar with the reflexology diagram on the sole of the foot. There, like around the TMJ, we find points related to almost every part of the body. These points are tied to the acupuncture meridian circuits of the body. And so when we use magnetic inserts in our shoes to relieve pain in the foot or leg muscles, we get almost immediate relief and can probably create prolonged problems. I personally know an individual who was told to put a magnet on his neck for treatment of a benign tumor. The doctor sold him a powerful one. This person had a heart attack soon after. An holistic MD, who is a neurologist, and a cardiologist both said that placing the magnet near the carotid sinus could well have precipitated it. Nobody even claims to understand how magnets work. There's a romantic mysticism associated with them. This plays into the doctor-patient relationship where the parent-doctor has needs to control the problem for the child-patient who, in his dependency, looks upon the 'healer' with reverence. The trust might be better placed upon the doctor who has reverence for the basic Hippocratic dictum, " First, do no harm. " Except for very short periods of time should a patient use one himself...that, at least until we know more about magnets' side effects.
