Guest guest
Thank you Suzy, for making me aware of this site... I think this mainly deals with insurance, whereas the legislation I was speaking of before deals with scope of practice laws and the right to practice without threat of harassment... Honestly, I just don't trust insurance companies... After working with a chiropractor for 7 years, and then on again, off again with other chiropractors after that, I have seen enough to make my stomach turn. Everyone wants insurance to cover the high cost of health care, but instead what is really happening in that process is that they are turning over the power to the insurance companies to tell them what they can and can not have not done. Both the client and the doctor/practitioner. In an HMO, a doctor can't even mention a procedure that is not offered by the HMO, even if it is lifesaving for the patient. My blood runs cold when my clients say they wish insurance covers massage. It may sound good, but it creates a welfare state of mind, subjecting both me and my client to the whims of what insurance companies require in order to get paid, the mountains of paperwork that choke the life out of small, one person office, and restricts what I as an experienced massage therapist can offer to my client. I have seen it while working in chiropractic offices- you can only massage 15 minutes on the back, for example. But the person's problem was stemming from their neck. Do I lie and submit false claims? NO. So how then can I help my client? My ideal solution is to make healthcare affordable- through homeopathy, herbs, proper diet, exercise, etc., so that insurance isn't even needed- save perhaps catastrophic, for when the big medical bills are unavoidable. And to show that I am willing to walk my talk, that is why I am willing to offer an hour and a half massage for only $50. But being a pragmatist, I can see where I am swimming up stream, and this just might be the next best thing.... Thank you again, for making me aware of it, so I can pass it on... Be Well, Misty L.
