Cheers, Doug - Melony Thursday, October 23, 2003 9:39 AM [s-A] Dentistry Hi I am hoping someone here can help or at least offer some ideas. I recently had some major work done on a tooth (re-do of an old root canal that wasn't done properly). The area was sore, as to be expected, but within 2 days I noticed a slight swelling in my face. The next morning the whole side of my face was up like a balloon (think squirrel storing nuts for winter). Since the dentist had said there was a chronic infection in the root we just assumed that all the current work had woken things up and I started on antibiotics. The swelling went down over about a week. Nine days ago I went to have the root canal completed. By that night my face was starting to swell and was fully swollen by the next morning. I once again started on antibiotics (script phone through to chemist as I couldn't get in to the dentist) and the swelling receded over about a week. This time however a raised lump formed on my gum a day after the swelling started. That took an extra 2-3 days to go. I remember some of the local squirting in my mouth as the dentist withdrew the needle. I know the work being done is extensive and difficult as it is an upper molar, but I'm starting to get a little worried that there may be more happening here. I have to go back in a week for further work on this and other teeth and I'm concerned about further reactions. I've never had any problems in the past, but is it possible I've developed an allergy to something? I haven't spoken to my dentist as yet.
