Why should we be concerned about what is happening in Europe related to restrictive regulations about nutritional supplements? The E.U. passed the " Directive on Food Supplements " that regulates the ingredients that may be used in supplements and the dosages of vitamins that people can buy in health food stores in their countries. Now, the power of the block of countries within the E.U. is exerting tremendous influence in Codex Alimentarius sessions and successfully imposing their restrictive approach as Codex is drafting international standards for vitamin and mineral supplements. Once a Codex standard is finalized, the World Trade Organization can use it to resolve international trade disputes.
