Misty,

I did Child Abuse Investigations for New York City for 10 years and worked for

one year in Foster Care in Maryland. You would not believe how many children

are on psychotropics and they are starting them younger and younger. What is

starting to surprise me even more is that they are now diagnosing adults with

ADHD and other similiar disorders and starting more fo them on psychotropics.

I think it is scary ... they are coming up with stuff like ODD -- Oppositional

Defiant Disorder and prescriping ... and to me, some of the kids are just bad

and need a better diet and more discipline and not drugs. (and better

supervision)

This is just so sad with all the drugs that kids are on now - and we say

we are a country fighting against drugs and just saying " no " to drugs???

I don't think so! There was a story in our paper just last night about a

10 year old girl who had ADHD who was on - and I can't remember the drug

name, started with " D " - it wasn't Ritalin - and she just died because

of seizures brought on by the drug. When are we going to learn!! Why

do people put so much faith in their doctors and do anything they say!!

I have a very cute - unfortunately very true - picture of a man in a

white coat, and the caption reads " Contrary to popular belief, this man

is not God! " How true how true. The story went on to say that the

parents of this girl are now on a mission to get the word out that so

many kids are mis-diagnosed and medically over-prescribed.

Because every where in our fast paced society, there is not much time for

children. With two parents working it is hard to deal with difficult children.

Schools don't want to deal with difficult children and a medicated child is

usually a manageable child in school. It takes a lot of work and commitment to

deal with children who have problems without the meidcation and many poeople are

not willing to make that commitment. Other parents are unaware there are

alternatives ...

What an awful outcome to somthing that shouldn't have happened at all. I

don't know if the parents will need an attorney to sort through all that, but

they definitely need some advice and peace of mind on how to handle the entire

situation. How emotionally devastating! Check out: '<A
