Guest guest
Hello everyone, I don't post much but I do read all the posts. Not to much has come up that I suffer with. But I have been passing remedies on to friends and family members, and they say they have been helpful. I got especially good feedback on the Hemmorhoid (sp) treatment. I have a problem, that I almost hesitate to ask about in an open forum, but I don't really have any other answers so here it goes. I cycle through problems with my cycle. I go through periods where it doesn't come for months and periods where it won't stop for months. I have been tested for thyroid problems, cysts, fibroids. All tests have come back negative. My doctor finally just said it must be my weight. I am 5'8 and I weigh 300lbs. He tried to explain that the fat cells metabolize something I need back into the other hormone ... it all goes over my head. I couldnt' find information about it in books or the web to get a better understanding. In 2000 the problem got really bad and I didn't have a good GYN. I started to bleed and didn't stop for about six months. I was going to her every two weeks, where she kept changing medications from hormone therapy to steroids and different doses of oral contraceptives ... near the end, she wouldn't even return my calls. My last visit to her, she threw up her hands and said she didn't know what to do. She should have referred me to someone else. I was so sick, I wasn't thinking clearly, or I would have taken myself somewhere else sooner. It had gotten really bad, I was really weak. I kept calling and she wouldn't return my calls. One day I passed out at work. I came to with Emergency Medical Services over me and whole bunch of concerned co workers. I refused a trip to the hospital and just went home. I found a new GYN the next day. She saw me immediatly and listened in disbelife to what I had been through with the other GYN. Frankly she didn't believe me until I pulled out a purse full of medication with dates going back for six months and new ones every month. She did some tests, put me on bed rest and then did a D & C. After the procedure she put me back on oral contraceptives. My new GYN ( I moved out of state), took me off them, saying something about not good to be on them for 15 years straight .. I am 35. Here is my problem. I haven't had a period for three months. A week and a half ago, it came and it doesn't show signs of letting up. Before I go back to my GYN who will opt for large doses of birth control pills to stop it or another D & C (and I want to do neither) ... I was wondering if there is anything else that might help. I would be willing to try almost anything at this point. My body doesn't take well to birth control pills. For the first three to six months, I am sick every day. Throwing up, nasaueous (sp), cramps, headaches.... I don't envy the thought of going through that again. And when they start me when I am in crisis like now, they usually make me take 10 -20 pills the first day, which causes massive sickness and side effects for me. Then I take less pills every day until I am down to one a day and it controls the bleeding. Any ideas, any thoughts ... any research to stare me to would be appreciated. Guest guest
Hi Merle, Can you give us more information? When did you first experience problems with your period? What happened in your life around then or before? Are there any illnesses or injuries or surgeries that may be relevant? What were your last three periods like? What color was the blood? Was there pain? If so, how would you describe the nature of the pain? What makes the pain better or worse? Are there clots? What color/size? Does menstrating affect your emotions? If so, do you become irritable, weepy, inconsoliable, withdrawn, etc.? Is there anything else you are experiencing with your period, such as headaches, constipation/diarrhea, acne, sleeplessness, etc.? What other unique syptoms can you share with us, while you are menstrating or not? Be Well, Misty http://www..com , " Merle D. Guest guest
You describe what I went through for a few years. When I was bleeding I'd pass clots the size of a bar of soap! It was horrible. I tried the bc pills, a D & C, then a TVH (total vaginal hysterectomy). I was left with my ovaries. I have been thankful every day since I did this. Such a relief. I don't have the scientific word for my condition, but my uturine lining was eating into my uturus. Very bizarre. The only way to diagnose is to do the surgery though. I was fighting the surgery until I went to a woman my age who explained it and how easy it is and I was then eager to do it. The recovery was rough because I had to work part time from home and my boss made me go in to work a few hours per day - I didn't have enough sick leave. I'd say recovery is a good 6 weeks. Good luck. This is a horrible thing to be going through. Deana > " Merle D.
