Guest guest
I am new to the group and have been very interested in alternative medicine for quite some time and am excited about the number of professionals that are in the group. I am a 68 yo grandmother and have a question about hair loss. My husband has lost most of his eye brows and eye lashes and hair is going fast. Hair seemed to start thinning and then all of a sudden bare patches started appearing. He has been on thyroid medication for a couple or three years and doctors have upped his medication from l00mcg to 112 mcg. He was not as enthusiastic about alternatives when doctors prescribed his medication so did not try alternative treatment at that time. He is much more open now. The doctor has told him that his scalp is shiny so that means the hair will grow back. That's amusing to me as I have never seen a bald headed man whose scalp did not look like he spent hours shining it. <g> At any rate, I would appreciate any comments or help that any of you might have. Guest guest
Hi Eloise, I think you are right... I have never seen a bald head that was not shiny... For right now, I recommend at least starting the research into fasting, sprouting, and increasing water intake that I mentioned to the lady with cholesterol. These are just good things to do for all sorts of chronic as well as acute conditions... But can you also tell us more about your husband's symptoms? Just like the lady with the high cholesterol, we all experience our symptoms uniquely. What is his sleep like, his appetite, is he a warm or chilly person, a thirsty or thirstless person, what other conditions does he have and what are they like? What makes him unique from the rest of suffering humanity? Using that information I will try to help you learn how to help him homeopathically... Let me also take a day or so and see if I can find out more useful information for you... Meanwhile there are many practitioners here who might have insight that is helpful... Guest guest
Misty, thank you so very much for your insight. I have a very healthy 74 yo husband. We do no sprouting but do try to drink a lot of water....at least 64 oz. daily. He's become very cooperative over the last yr or so with alternative methods. As far as we can tell, he has no other symtoms. He does not have a weight problem....cholesterol is wonderful.....blood sugar is really good....trigllycerides fine....even though he considers himself right handed, he has more grip in his left hand....and can use the left hand better than me. My left hand is strictly a helper hand. He has no sleep problems. He has always been able to sit down and take a short nap any time he desires. Wakes up refreshed and ready to go. I'm more of a type A person and if I nap and dont get enough, I have a hard time not being grouchy. Not him. He eats well. No change there. We try to eat a healthy diet with greens, low carb and a few sweets. He is more of a warm person. We have not noticed any change in his thirst. He has some arthritis in his thumb. He says that he feels fine and has a very active life. Gardens some, does our yard work, active in church work, and does do it yourself projects around the house. We're on the road a good bit with grand children and their activities. He just had cataract surgery last year. Has had a hernia repair several years ago. Has some problem with memory but have gone through tests for that and iridologist found some circulation problems. Neurologists and psychologist gave him a clean bill of health as far as Alzheimers and dementia. He has some macular degeneration but it has progressed none in the last three years when it was first diagnosed. He feels fine and this has baffled the family doctor. Other than synthroid (which I wish he was not on) he takes nothing except supplements. He does take a prescription FoltX which is a mega B12, B6 and Folic Acid. He is very easy going although he does have a stubborn streak. <g> Only those very close to him realizes that because he is so agreeable in disagreeing. Sometimes you do not realize he is disagreeing which causes me some problems. <g again> This is about all I can think of, but will keep meditating and see if anything else surfaces. Thank you for your time. Eloise
Guest guest
Dear Eloise, You gave some good symptoms that we need to look further into... For example, is he predominately left handed? Do most of his symptoms seem to happen to his left side? What is his sleep like? When does he go to bed, when does he wake? Does he wake in the middle of the night for anything? If so, when does he tend to wake and for how long is he awake? If all food were equally good, say salad is as good as chocolate, what would he have every single day? What food does he not like, and which foods do not like him? Is his thirst normally strong or weak? Does he drink 64 oz a day because his body wants to, or because he knows he should? Is there arthritis anywhere else? What makes the arthritis better, what makes it worse? Is it worse on the left side? Are there any other bone complaints- such as his teeth? What is his vision like? Does he see floaters, double vision, etc.? Tell me more about the memory problems... Is it names, or faces, or places, is it stuff from long ago, or more short term? When is the memory better, when is it worse? When he is stubborn, does he have to be right? What makes him stubborn? Does he disagree in a nice way because he does not want to hurt anyone's feelings or because he does not like to fight, etc.? Guest guest
For example, is he predominately left handed? No, but can use his left hand better than most right handed people. Do most of his symptoms seem to happen to his left side? No. What is his sleep like? Has no sleep problems that we know of. Sleeps well. When does he go to bed, when does he wake? Between 10-ll p.m. and up between 5:30-6:30. Does he wake in the middle of the night for anyything? Only for bathroom and then right back to sleep. If all food were equally good, say salad as good as chocolate, what would he have every single day? Breads and Peanut Butter. What food does he not like, and which foods do not like him? He's a meat and potatoes man. Loves desserts. Salads would be least favorite altho he enjoys a green salad. Is his thirst normally strong or weak? Average. Does he drink 64 oz a day because his body wants to, or because he knows he should? Knows he should. Is there arthritis anywhere else? Maybe in the knees but not too noticable. What makes the arthritis better, what makes it worse? It just comes and goes. Is it worse on the left side? No. Are there any other bone complaints- such as his teeth? No. What is his vision like? Does he see floaters, double vision, etc.? He had cataract surgery last year. No problems. He just told if he really relaxed sometimes he could see double. No real problem, though. Tell me more about the memory problems... Is it names, or faces, or places, is it stuff from long ago or short term? He has never been really good with remembering names. And we have not been able to determine a pattern of long term and short term. It seems he had problems with his low thyroid without the usual symtoms. He had no weight problem and no fatigue. But it seems his memory must have really been affected because there are periods that has no memory of. For instance, we went to Israel in 2000 and he cannot remember a lot about it. He felt fine and enjoyed it immensely while we were there. He was diagnosed in 200l with the hypothyroid. Some things are clear as can be but others are just not there that we feel would be things he would have remembered. But there are other things that are not as memorable that he remembers. When is the memory better, when is it worse? No pattern. When he is stubborn, does he have to be right? I have never been able to determine this. After all of these you'd think I'd have a handle on it, but I dont.think he necessarily thinks he is right. Maybe he just doesnt want to do it or thinks he should What makes him stubborn? I think its his temperament. He is a phlegmatic for sure, if you are familiar with that. Does he disagree in a nice way because he does not want to hurt anyone's feelings or because he does not like to fight, etc.? He definitely does not like confrontation. He very seldom verbally disagrees but when he does it is very evident. Mostly will just go ahead and do what he's gonna do. In studying the temperaments he is definitely phlegmatic with a blend of choleric. Married to a melancholy with a blend of choleric. Definitely not a laid back bone in my body...LOL.... He has mellowed a lot in the last few years. For instance, I cooked only what he liked and he did not like to try new things. I brought this up in one of my " confrontations " (I'm not bashful when it comes to confrontations. Get it out in theopen and get it over with is my motto) in the manner of why couldnt he eat something that I liked for a change since I had cooked and eaten only what he liked. The look on his face was sheer astonishment. It had never occurred to him. He began to try new things with me and our diet has been much better since that time......Course this was after our children were grown and gone.....but better that than not at all. He eats much healthier now. Guess you could say I spoiled him, huh?? If you need further info please dont hesitate to ask. I do appreciate your interest and effort. We refuse to grow old. <g> Even losing his hair, he's a trooper......we've had some good years together.. will celebrate our 50th next year. Medically, he's been very blessed. Until we had the testing done in 200l, he didnt know what the inside of a doctors office looked like unless he was with me. Had gone for only a very few physicals during his life, so we know we are blessed. Even now, he doesn't feel bad but we know something is not functioning correctly and he does get checked yearly now. He just never saw a reason to take care of himself before because he had NO complaints. Thta's what I called blessed. Thank you for your comments and have a wonderful day. Guest guest
Hi Eloise... I did some researching for you as well... There are two main remedies for hair loss- carbo veg and phosphorous. Carbo veg covers the memory and is indicated for those who are living long, full lives... So, I think the carbo veg is most indicated. Again, if it were me, myself and I, I would take carbo. veg. 30c and cell salts (they are a homeopathic preparation of all 12 cell salts put into one remedy) and I would alternate these, making sure I took each one at least three times during the day... Again do this for a month and if he chooses to do this, please report back how he feels.. Guest guest
Hi Eloise, The full name of the remedy is carbo vegetabilis. Do you have a Wild Oats or some other health food store that carries homeopathic remedies? And you will want the 30c potency. Ps- this remedy also covers eye issues, I did not know exactly what his symptoms were to see if it was a match, so I would be interested in knowing how those symptoms go as well. Would you mind keeping a short log or diary, so you can keep track of how he progresses? Sometimes the shift can be so gradual, likewise once the symtpom is gone, it is hard to recall.
