Guest guest
Hi everyone... I am forwarding this from Natural Healing... Comments? Be Well, Misty http://www..com On Monday March 31,2003 the FDA started to take action against some companies they charge are trying to market some illegal drugs or drug substitutes as dietary supplements. The companies are alleged to advertise on their internet sites that the drugs have mood enhancing highs, ecstasy, ephedra etc. I looked at most of the sites. Some are grossly abusive, selling drugs to get high legally, likw www.getstoned-legally But include are some legitimate dietary supplement manufacturers, such as www.herbshop.com which is supposed to sell ecstasy, which it might, but it's website is full of good healthy supplements that should not be lumped in this categry. Unfortunately, this is a deliberate attempt to frighten normal consumers who are interested in exloring natural and herbal therapies instead of prescription drugs. Also included is www.natureshigh.com which does try to legitamately promote and inform about the medical uses of marijuana and efforts and possible legislation to legalize marijuana and report it's medical benefits. This is a GROSS violation of free speech rights--even strongly protected political speech rights commingled with less well protected but explicitly recognised and protected rights to commercial speech. Although Ephedra can be overdosed and misused it is a very legitimate herbal treatment in chinese medicine (ma huang). The dangerous side efects of FDA approved prescription drugs as documeted on the Jornal of the american Medical Association april 1998 showed FDA approved drugs prescribed AS DIRECTED-not overdoses-not the wrong drug- resulted in 106,000 deaths in hospitals alone. FDA does nothing to protect consumers against this far greater threat, but actually PROTECTS the reputation and market for these more dangerous drugs, by abusing their regulatory power to go after the possible competeitors to the dangerous drugs. The manufacturers of these dangerous drugs offer big lucrative jobs to former FDA officials and some high ranking employees who set these dangerous anti-consumer-patient policies. Write, call and email your Congressman and Senators to oppose this FDA abuse of its regulatory powers.See www.house.gov and www.senate.gov The legitimate supplement manufacturers should not be caught up in this hysteria against a few egregious maufacturers of health promoting products covered in DSHEA.
