Guest guest
Hi Jan & everyone, Jan, thanks for the heads up about this bill... I finally found more information about it. Comments anyone? Misty http://www..com SENATE BILL S144: FELONY FOR UNAUTHORIZED PRACTICE OF MEDICINE Well, it's happened again. On 2/24/03 a new state Senate Bill was introduced proposing that `practicing medicine without a license' will change from a misdemeanor to a felony. Many of you will remember a similar effort in June 2000, when House Bill 1049 – Physician Licensure Bill, was introduced. After massive public outcry & opposition, this bill was removed. Then, as now, many citizens see this as an attempt to arrest Complementary & Alternative medicine practitioners. This would further prohibit you, the citizens of NC, from having access to the health care provider of your choice. To take action: Call and write your legislators!! Tell them you are opposed to Senate bill S144. It is especially important to contact your state senators, as the state senate is where the bill is being introduced. To find out who represents you, see the North Carolina General Assembly website: www.ncleg.com (look for the heading `Site Navigation', and then select the button `Representation'). On the NCGA website you can also look up this bill (S144) and track it. Following next is a letter from the board of Citizens for Healthcare Freedom. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering & educating the public about healthcare choices, & working to create a statewide network aimed at improving access. Dear Friend: Do you think you should have the right to receive the kind of health care you want? Right now, your right to natural and alternative treatment options is under attack. The North Carolina legislature has determined that you should not have access to healing methods using natural herbs, homeopathy, naturopathy and many other effective treatment options. Some legislators want to protect you from safe, non-invasive therapies that could restore your health. Instead they insist that you must get conventional treatments regardless what you feel is best for you or your family. By the way, recent statistics about the safety of conventional medicine show that 250,000 Americans die each year from medical errors and that the unreported numbers make this significantly higher. Did you know that under current law in North Carolina, certified and competent practitioners of herbal healing, naturopathy, homeopathy, and many other natural treatments can be investigated and charged with a crime because the state won't recognize these therapies? This is why there are very few practitioners who dare to practice in this state. However, now the medical establishment aims to make it completely impossible to practice alternative therapies in North Carolina. If the state medical authority has its way, it will be a felony to practice these therapies and can land your health practitioner in jail. The medical monopoly tried this almost three years ago, but thousands of North Carolinians informed their legislators that this was not acceptable. The proposed bill was successfully defeated! Now the felony bill is back. And again, legislators are considering whether the practice of natural therapies should be a felony. Join the community of North Carolinians and simply say " NO!! " Write and call your state senators & representatives. When we all speak up, our voices are joined together with a powerful message. Tell everyone you know. Forward on this email alert. Guest guest
Thanks, Misty. The penalties for " practicing medicine without a license " are already severe. This is a thinly disguised attempt to criminalize physicians who have learned that they could help their patients much more by going outside the strict adherence to the simplistic allopathic paradigm that has a stranglehold on the disease-care system in this country! Guest guest
Thank you, Dr. Walt, I think alternative health is taking a great hit this year, between the FDA wanting to regulate supplements, the organic standard being destroyed (depending on what happens today, the deadline for response), and now trying to make it a felony for alternative practitioners to practice in NC. There are large special interest groups out there that don't even want us to be able to have the choice on how we decide to live a healthier, happier life. If we don't take a stand now, well... it doesn't look good... Be Well, Misty L.
