Guest guest
I got this from part of DR. MERCOLA'S newsletter, Enjoy, Misty http://www..com You Really Are Only as Old as You Feel Old sayings like " You're only as old as you feel " may be more than just words, as one study found that they might actually persuade people to changer their lifestyles as they age. Researchers asked 104 people between the ages of 18 and 77 years to describe one memorable message they had received as well as how it had influenced them. Messages were categorized according to how they interpreted the aging process. For example, " You're only young once, enjoy it while you can, " was included with messages having to do with enjoying life, and those to do with age as a state of mind included " Getting old and being old are two different things. " The messages commonly shed a positive light on aging, and 34 percent of participants said that they had changed their lives or their relationships with others in response to them. Moreover, the messages influenced 11 percent of participants to enjoy life more, and seven percent to exercise and eat healthily. Researchers said that people's beliefs, along with timing, are likely reasons why people remember messages that are important to them. Journal of Communication 2002;52:681-69 --- ----------- DR. MERCOLA'S COMMENT: Brian Tracy wrote a wonderful book called Maximum Achievement. Although he is not a health care practitioner he has helped to popularize an important energy medicine concept: Whatever you focus your constant attention on you tend to manifest in your life. I am convinced that this statement is true as I see the results of it nearly everyday in my clinical practice. The major problem, however, is that many people tend to dwell on fear and therefore reap negative consequences. Focusing on fear and what you don't want to have can actually create a reverse effect--actually facilitating the manifestation of the very thing you were afraid of. www.mercola.com
