Guest guest
Hi to everyone, and thanks to Misty for hosting this list. I'm pleased to join, and to let you know about Energy Psychology. It is a relatively new field which can be used for the treatment of emotional, cognitive and behavioral difficulties and problems. It is also often useful in working with physical conditions and symptoms. Energy Psychology draws on ancient traditions such as acupuncture and chi kiung. It has roots in many established specialties, among them psychology, biophysics, medicine, and chiropractic. EP works directly on the human energy body. Some variations of it can be thought of as psychological acupuncture. Changes facilitated by EP often occur much more rapidly (sometimes instantly!), painlessly, and easily than with other methods of psychotherapy. EP approaches and tools are many and varied, and can be integrated flexibly and creatively with other modalities, and with more traditional psychotherapeutic approaches. Frequently these tools are also appropriate for self help purposes. I've been working successfully as a psychotherapist for decades, and have been using EP approaches for approximately 5 years. I integrate this work with cognitive behavioral therapy, visualization, hypnosis, breathing techniques, biofeedback, EMDR, and so forth. The Energy Psychology work adds most significantly to therapeutic possibilities. I find it especially helpful in the treatment of traumas, phobias, and other anxiety-based disorders. It is also very useful in working with false beliefs (for example, about one's own limitations) which can trip someone up. It can also be creatively applied to help improve self confidence and performance in many areas. Some EP approaches can also be valuable in the treament of allergies. In Dec. 2002, after many months of intense preparation, I led a team which included 2 other psychologists and myself to Israel, where we conducted a 3-day training for 130 therapists and care-givers of many backgrounds and varying areas of expertise. This training was in the use of Energy Psychology-based tools for the treatment of trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. With these EP approaches we are able to very gently treat people who have been terribly traumatized, without further retraumatization, and with impressive effectiveness. The trainees ranged from psychologists and social worksers to physicians, rabbis, mnassage therapists, teachers, and others. Many of the participants work daily with people who have suffered terrible losses and major traumas. All live constantly with anxiety and uncertainty. The participants were most eager to learn, and many quickly put their new knowledge and skills into practice, already reporting successes by the final day of the training. I look forward to learning more about the approaches you all use, and how you put them into practice. With best regards, Karen Karen K. Guest guest
Hi, Karen! This is my favorite area. I believe I read about the Israel trip on a newsletter from Gary Craig? You're using EFT? I'd love to hear more. I was hopeful that Misty would be versed in Energy Medicine (Donna Eden)and she indicated when I met her that she was getting to it! I pour over the book and try some of it but I think I need someone (practitioner) to do it or teach me! Do you take Blue Cross? Guest guest
Hi, Deana. The best reference, that pulls it all together, is Richard Gerber, MD's " Vibrational Medicine " . His first book came out in 1988 but he has a new, updated, edition. Namaste` Walt Stoll, MD - " Deana Smiel " <rsmiel Monday, February 03, 2003 5:08 PM Re: Energy Psychology > Hi, Karen! Guest guest
Hi Deana, I have a copy of it if you want to look it over. It is a great book, one of the first books I ever bought, and still one of my favorites...
