Why GW should forgive.

Dear Friends,

GW has obviously been deeply hurt by the doings of a close friend. I fully sympathise with him and would still ask him to forgive the friend. Why?

1. Maybe because this incident has given GW a chance to distance himself from a person who

could have done more damage at a later date.

2. Because this person has allowed GW to hone the art of forgiveness and also to see for

himself what benefits forgiveness brings in its wake.

3. For his own mental peace as otherwise GW would continue to ponder over the situation,

think of revenge, develop anger, do something foolish and thus put himself in an awkward

situation.

Forgiveness is a quality that everybody should cultivate in good measure. We all have a premonition that after death we will face an omniscient God who will judge us on the basis of our actions on earth. This omniscient God who knows everything we have done on earth is nothing but our own mind. It is thus our own mind that judges us at the end. So if we do not infuse the quality of forgiveness, then our mind, devoid of that quality, will not be able to forgive our own trangressions.

Spiritual healers stress on the importance of forgiveness as a means to accelerate the process of cure. A mind endowed with forgiveness is highly flexible and is thus more conducive to release the negative emotions bottled up within us. It is also said that a forgiving mind allows the glandular system to function properly.

One of my teachers said " You can put someone out of

your house, but don't put them out of your heart. "

Also, be merciful with yourself. If someone has abused

you or caused you or your family great harm, don't

feel that you have to forgive them to be a " spiritual "

person. Give yourself some time to heal and practice

sadhana and when the mind is calm and balanced these

resentments will fall away by themselves. Don't try to

pull the fruit from the tree until it is fully ripe.

Jagannathji,

Thankyou so much. I'm glad I posted my thoughts here and I knew I

would receive ONLY POSITIVE feedback. No, I never thought of revenge,

but yes, remorse at the repetitiveness of my friend's behaviour was

certainly there....nevertheless, I guess Thakur(my friend is an

ardent devotee of Thakur and looks up to HIM as his guru)is guiding

me to overlook and forgive this errant behaviour.

Yes, i guess my friend is an instrument to teach me forbearance and

forgiveness...???

BTW I am Gauri...a lady, not a man..:) :)

Rgds,

GW(Gauri)
