Guest guest
Greatness of Satsang Satsang is not that you do it once and leave it. It is to be done daily. It is a medicine. By satsang one gets strength. Everyone does not know about this. They say `Why do you listen to it everyday? The topic will be one and same, so why to spend time over it?' I have heard one story. There was one saint who had been giving discourse for many years. Once in his satsang he asked fellow listeners - why do you come everyday? Gita, Ramayan, Mahaharat etc. they are the same literary works from which our discourses are taking place. There is no other new topic to listen to, then why do you come everyday? One gentleman replied " Your Holiness, I have heard that mongoose and snake are enemies. When both are fighting they bite each other. Mongoose bites the snake and injures him. The mongoose is very careful but still he gets few venomous bites from the snake. When the poison spreads in his body then he retreats to his hole and smells the antidote. This cures him and gives him the strength to again fight with snake. In the end, mongoose defeats the snake. Similarly we confront this world. Attachment-aversion, desire, anger, lust etc. are the venomous bites of this world. When we go for satsang (antidote) and listen to discourses then the effect of the poison is reduced. Whatever we listen to we also apply in our lives. By applying it the effect of the poison is nullified. Then we regain strength and again face the world and confront it. In this manner, one day we are victorious. " Therefore satsang is to be done everyday. Reading Gita, Ramayan etc. should be done everyday. These spiritual activities should be done everyday. We gain strength, support from satsang. By taking its support we conquer the world one day. After engaging in satsang the impressions of the world reduce. By doing satsang regularly if its importance is realized then faults are also reduced. Attraction towards world is a fault. But at the very root these faults are unreal (asat). And attraction towards Parmatma is real because `Naasato Vidyate Bhaavo Naabhaavo Vidyate Satah' (Gita 2.16). The unreal has no existence and the real never ceases to be. So the real comes out the winner one day. Why do you eat food everyday? Does one eat it for few months and then leaves it? No ! Right? Similarly satsang is to be done everyday. When interest is aroused in satsang then everyday it appears to be new `Dine Dine Navam Navam'. Everyday it new insights are discovered from it - " Real never ceases to be " (Gita 2:16).
