How do we study the self? How can this be a part of our life? It is

easier said than done because we have dropped our habit of studying

the self through numerous births. We always keep peeping into

others' windows and pointing fingers on others.

How strange! We have stopped worrying about the Self. We no more

love ourselves and instead are busy finding faults with others day

in and day our, " That one is bad; that one is a cheat, that one is a

liar, and that one has a bad character. " Not only this, some

ignorant persons go beyond that and declare with pride, " I know the

complete history of that man's ancestors. " Such a man has closed the

doors on the knowledge about himself. He is always thinking about

others.

You cannot call such persons do-gooders. They get pleasure in

locating shortcomings in others. The flaws of others make them feel

better and give them a false notion of greatness. Can blackening

others' faces brighten one's own face? Ignorant souls keep playing

this game birth after birth. They spend all their energy in

searching for black spots in others and avoid study of their own

selves.

That is why a person keeps faltering on the path of life and blaming

others for this, " He has deceived me. He has cheated me. He has

breached my trust. " He forgets that all these are only images of his

own face. Kabirji has well warned:

Buraa jo dekhan main chalaa bura na milyaa koye

Jaa dil khojaa aapnaa mujh saa buraa na koye

This is the condition of self -study. One has to look into one's own

mind and purge out all the dirt within. If we look at others, we

should search for sweetness like a bee. The flowers of life do have

sweet pollen on them. We should find that sweetness and store the

same within ourselves. This will become Self-study and the virtues

and sweetness of others will sweeten our life.

Once we develop the habit of Self-study, we shall learn from every

atom of Nature. Every moment of life shall teach us something.
