Benefits of Spiritual Discourses

 

There is one vital fact. The extent of fears experienced by a

person, before attending spiritual discourses (satsang), to that

extent those fears do not remain, after listening to spiritual

discourses. A seeker experiences a major change in his tendencies,

conduct, habits, attitude and behavior after listening to

discourses. Also agitations of the mind, harmful forces and other

flaws are wiped out on their own. But this only happens when we

honor, pay attention to, and give importance to the messages of

these spiritual discourses (satsang) and translate them into our

lives. On giving importance to spiritual discourses, a seeker will

definitely experience the following three things in his life -

 

1) The force with which desires for sensual enjoyment and anger

etc., used to come at one time, they do not come with the same

degree of intensity, as earlier.

 

2) Such desires and instincts do not stay for as long as they used

to remain at one time.

 

3) The desires and instincts do not appear as often now as they used

to appear earlier.

 

By observing these things, the enthusiasm of the aspirant should

increase, because the tendencies are decreasing over time and with

certainty will eventually be completely wiped out.

 

In business, a person can encounter gains and losses, but in

spiritual discourses, one only reaps profits. There are never any

losses. Just as a child grows naturally in his mother's lap, without

any conscious effort, in the same way the spiritual development of

an individual takes place naturally, unconsciously and

automatically. If eagerness, enquiry and desire to know God is very

strong and if the slightest flaw (defect) becomes intolerable, then

realization is attained instantly.
