Man is an amalgam of body, mind and spirit. The senses of perception and action, which form the components of the body, are busy contacting the objective world. The mind examines, experiences and judges. It decides after discrimination, which word or deed will be beneficial. It attempts to separate the good from the bad, the Punya (virtuous deed) from the Paapa (sinful action), the true from the false, and the permanent from the momentary. The Spirit or the Atma is the unaffected basis. Its quality is Sath (being) but it is ever aware, ever Chith (consciousness). And when the consciousness is pure and unchanging, that state is Ananda (divine bliss).

First, tend your parents with love, reverence and gratitude. Second, speak the truth and act virtuously. Third, whenever you have a few moments to spare, repeat the Name of the Lord, remembering the Form in your mind. Fourth, never indulge in talking ill of others or try to discover other's faults. And finally, never cause pain to others in any form.

SO SAYS THE LORD

" Do you delight when I allow you to be near Me? The next moment I might cause the sorrow of separation. Do you feel that Sai takes delight in your tears? Just then I might make you laugh till your sides ache, and continue to grant you joy, again and again. Do you feel a sense of elevation when I praise you a little? That very moment I may prick the bubble of your pride by means of ridicule. Do you feel secure when I tell you not to fear? The next moment I might inflict pain and appear indifferent when you pray for relief. I do not allow you to go back, nor do I allow you to go forward! I madden your mind and smother your ego. Find out how any one can move away from this charming Sai, the embodiment of Love and Light. Find out the reason why He is indispensable, in spite of this dual role. "

Swami, you have not read that letter... "

" Your letter has not reached me yet; but, I have read it already. You posted it to Madras, not knowing that I have come back here. I was near you when you wrote it. Your mother must know be very much better: is it not? " This is what Baba wrote to a devotee, some years back. He is Sarvantharyami; He is in all places, at all times.

Our letter need not reach Him. Even when it reaches Him, He need not open it and read the contents!

One day, I happened to be in His room when the post came. When He dropped on the floor one letter unread and unopened, some newly arrived person muttered, " Swami, you have not read that letter. It may be some tale of misery " . Baba smiled and said, " No,No. It is a tale of joy, He says that a son has been born to him; but, he is worried that the baby was born with frontal teeth. " Then, He told us the whole story with the envelope in His hand.

" A Vaisya couple from a village in Telengana had come on pilgrimage to Puttaparthi a year ago; they prayed that they may be blessed with progeny. I gave the man an apple and asked him to share it with his wife. He took it in his hand and examined it. Finding some marks on the skin, indicating that it might have been bitten by a rat or so, he asked me what it was, evidently nervous about eating it. I told him that they both could eat it. 'Only, the baby will have two frontal at birth. Don't worry.'

He has now written that the child has been born and, (Here, He tore open the envelope, took out the letter and turning over the lines showed us the very sentence) " he has asked Me whether any Santhi has to be performed, to alleviate what he fears be a calamity! "

Looking at that sentence, we stood amazed, in the resplendent Presence of Bhagavan.

Baba is Sarvajna, Sarvasaktha, Sarvaantharyami.

Brahma symbolizes speech. What kind of speech is being referred to here? The speech which is symbolic of Brahma has auspiciousness, purity, splendor and sweetness. You should see that your speech is pure, soft and sweet. Brahma pervades the entire universe as primordial sound. You should therefore preserve the purity and sanctity of speech by observing silence and truthfulness. The words you speak should contain the magnificence, sanctity and purity of Brahma

SAI GITA

The Love of God

God's love is unconditional. It is the same for all. But what must you do to experience this extraordinary love of God? What path should you follow ? If you sow some seeds without first weeding and properly preparing the field, you cannot expect to get a good crop. In the same way, in the field of the heart, unless all the bad traits of selfishness are first removed, you will not get a good crop. In the Gita it is taught that the principal weed that has to be removed from the field of the heart is the attachment to and identification with the body. Even now, you may imagine that you love God; but merely having this thought will not produce any worthwhile result for you. It is like sowing good seeds on barren, unprepared soil. The most important thing for you to find out is if you are dear to God. Even if you love God, if you haven't transformed your life to become very dear to him and feel his boundless, unvarying love, then your devotion will not have taken you very far.

What, then, is the way to become dear to God? You will find the answer to this question in the Gita, in the chapter on the path of devotion. The chapter on devotion gives a number of human qualities that are very pleasing to God. It speaks of being resolute and making a firm commitment to practice only the spiritual teachings in your daily life. It puts great emphasis on developing steadiness of mind under all circumstances. And it enjoins you to be fully contented and joyful at all times, under all conditions. What is the inner meaning of this last directive?

POEM-SAY THANKS!

Today before you think of saying an unkind wordThink of someone who can't speakBefore you complain about the taste of your food

Think of someone who has nothing to eatBefore you complain about your husband or wifeThink of someone who's crying out to God for a companion

Today before you complain about lifeThink of someone who went too early to heavenBefore you complain about your children

Think of someone who desires children but they're barrenBefore you argue about your dirty house; someone didn't clean or sweep

Think of the people who are living in the streetsBefore whining about the distance you driveThink of someone who walks the same distance with their feet

And when you are tired and complain about your jobThink of the unemployed, the disabled and those who wished they had your job

But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning anotherRemember that not one of us are without sin and we all answer to one maker

And when depressing thoughts seem to get you downPut a smile on your face and thank God you're alive and still around

Life is a gift...Live it...Enjoy it...

Celebrate it...And fulfill it....Live well! Laugh often! Love much!

Stories and Parables

Stories and Parables quoted from the Discourses of Sri Sathya Sai Baba

GIFTS OF GRACE

Once Jesus was walking along the streets of a city. It was a slum area. He saw a young man rolling in dirt, dead drunk. He went to him, sat by his side and woke him up. The young man opened his eyes and saw Jesus. Jesus asked him: " Son! Why are you wasting your precious youth in drinking? " The young man replied: " Master!, I was a leper. You cured me of my leprosy. What else can I do? " Jesus heaved a sigh and walked away.

In another street he saw a man madly pursuing a beautiful woman. Jesus caught hold of him and asked him: " Son! Why do you desecrate your body by indulging in such a sinful act? " The man replied: " Master! I was really blind. You gave me vision. What else can I do? "

Jesus trudged along another street. He saw an old man crying bitterly. Jesus approached him and gently touched him. The old man wiped his tears and looked at Jesus. Jesus questioned him: " Why are you weeping old man? " The old man said: " Master! I was nearly dead. You granted me life. What else can I do except weep in this old age? "

In times of difficulty and distress, we cry out for God's help. But when God, out of His boundless love and compassion, responds to our prayer, we ignore Him and fall back into our self-centered life. One must guard oneself against this greatest sin of ingratitude towards God.
