2. GITA JAYANTI: Gita Jayanti falls on Tuesday, December 9th, 2008. The Gita Jayanti, or the birthday of the Bhagavad Gita, is celebrated throughout India and other parts of the world by all the admirers and lovers of this most sacred scripture on Earth on the eleventh day (Ekadashi) of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the month of Margaseersha, according to the Hindu Scriptures.

It was on this day that Sanjaya narrated to King Dhritarashtra the dialogue between Sri Krishna and Arjuna, and thus made the glorious teachings of the Lord available to all of us, and to people of the world, for all time.

The Bhagawad Gita Jayanti marks one of the greatest days in the history of mankind. Nearly six thousand years ago on that day a dazzling flash of brilliant light lit up the firmament of human civilisation. That flash, that marvellous spiritual effulgence, was the message of the Bhagavad Gita, given by the Lord Himself on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Unlike ordinary flashes of light which die away after a split-second, this brilliant flash of that memorable day has continued to shine through the centuries, and even now illumines the path of humanity on its onward.

3. Friday, December 12th is DATTATREYA JAYANTI: To know more about the story of this incarnation of Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara), beautifully spoken by Sri Swami Sivananda of Divine life by clicking the Below link :

4. And finally DHANUR MASAM (Month) starts on Saturday, December 20th, 2008, even though Margasira Masam starts after Kartika Masam, on Friday, December 28th. Dhanur masam is entirely dedicated to do God's activities and inauspicious for anything else.

The month Margasira (December-January) derives its name from the star Mrigasirsha. It is also known as Dhanur masa since during this month the sun transits through Dhanur rasi (Sagittarius). Vedas and Agamas say mornings in this month are ideal for worship of the Lord.

Krishna underlines its special nature by saying in Bhagavad Gita that among months he is Margasira due to it's Jayanti this month. In temples all over India during this month there is special pre-dawn worship. Since this month is set apart exclusively for worship, the month is considered as Sunya Masam - inauspicious for events like marriages and other such functions are not performed in Dhanur Masam. The shaivite composition Thiruvembavai and the vaishnavite Thiruppavai are particularly recited during this month.

Temples like SriRangam, Tirupati & Annavaram are over crowded with a sea of people.
