The truth lies within our being

The Trinidad Guardian, 30 Dec 2009 Within our beings we have the truth; seek no more, say the enlightened. Nothing can restrict us from the truth except our own minds, the sages confirm. Jesus said that the Kingdom of God lies within us. This is the treasure trove of truth. The Buddhists proclaim that through the practice of meditation techniques, we can reach the highest level of peace. They say this is more fulfilling than all wealth and worldly glory. Sai Baba, with the utmost authority, declares that we are the embodiments of love. Everyone who experiences love in its true form knows this to be the truth.

There are no greater tools for life than these: truth, peace and love. All three are within our being. Through peace, the process of silence, we get all answers relating to truth by the power of love. What is there to achieve in life except truth of existence? What is more satisfying in an over-active mind than peace? What is greater in creation than love? God is love. God is peace and God is truth. Over many hundreds of years, man has been seeking. It is something like a treasure hunt. Only the one who knows how to read the map finds the treasure. In creation, man has enormous power than emanates from his consciousness. This power is beyond the mind. However, the irony is that it is through his mind that we can tap into this power. There are very little restrictions to go within, seek and utilise this power. Unfortunately, many choose to go with the ego and use the mind incorrectly and become their own victim.

The ultimate result is that they never leave the starting block. This is how God has designed it. However, His plan is for us to make a success by defeating the ego and surrendering to him. It is greed for material desires, lust for power and control over others that prevent man from realising the enormous power within him. Man creates for himself what his mind focuses on. A dog stood on a bridge over a river. It had a bone in its mouth. It looked down at the river, not realising that it was its own reflection. Out of greed it barked to scare the dog it saw, so that it could have another bone. As it did, its bone fell into the river and disappeared into its depths. In the same way, truth gets submerged into the depths of our consciousness by our greed, envy, lust, pride, anger and hate.

We have the power of God to seek the truth by eliminating all that is not of our nature. It is the negatives of life that keep us earth-bound. That gives us no peace. We need to focus on the positive and everything will appear good. If we wear pink glasses, everything will appear pink. Search from within your heart and God will answer you. Control the mind and peace will be with you forever. How can anyone deny that these tools of truth, peace and love are the instruments of God that lead us to enlightenment? They are given to us for our benefit. It is sheer foolishness that we choose not to take advantage of these wonderful gifts.

It is part of God’s plan for man to merge with him. This is like a person who needs to get to another place rejecting the use of his limbs. He sits wondering how to get to his destination and feels angry and agitated that he is unable to get there. Very capable of going where he wants to, all he has to realise is that he has limbs to do so. We too have the power to do what God wants us to do. He designed it so that we take strides in that direction. However, our mind prevents us from pursuing this path. The world creates the illusion that it is real and we are trapped and lose everything like the dog that lost his bone. Our conscience is our guide and our consciousness, a voice within our being. It shows us the way. We are divine. We are the power of God.
